Been going to a big chain gym franchise for quite some time, but I would like to see what options there are for smaller, independently owned gyms. I don't need classes, basketball courts or the like. All I need is a place with lots of free weights.

There are some really great smaller gyms in the Summerlin side of town. Go check them out one day. You will thank me.

If you're in Henderson, just stop into any of the Recreation Centers, they all have gyms.

from my experience smaller gyms have higher prices and less equipment...just hit 24hr or planet fitness (or even lvac) at the non-peak hours...I'm not a class guy myself. A smaller gym can seem just as busy with 10 people using the weights as a large gym with 100 people working out. The better value is at the bigger gym BY FAR.

I have looked at Crossfit gyms, but those are WAY expensive.

Anytime fitness is the best. You're in and out in a flash, open 24 hrs, very clean, etc.

I didn't care at all for anytime fitness, tried em for a week when I first got here...too small and their prices were higher than planet fitness, 24hr fitness and LVAC. I'd say worst value for a fitness center in Vegas...and as for it being open anytime, a gym being 24hrs is pretty much the norm these days, especially in Vegas, just my opinion.

Also, I already go to a big chain gym, and while it's ok I have just personally grown out of wanting to train at a large gym. Ideally, I want to train in a "dungeon" type gym, with few amenities outside of free weights and benches. I want a place where serious weight work can be done.
