Los Angeles is known for it's beaches and Hollywood. When you (finally) get to the beach after fighting traffic and pay your $$$ to park the beaches are overcrowded and dirty. When I visited there were health warnings posted about swimming in the water (!!!).
Those signs are usually posted after storms to let you know of the potential for runoff. What's the big deal?

Sort of like my experience at the Stratosphere a couple of days ago with the neighborhood hookers, thugs and hustlers everywhere. That was a joy...let me tell you! Don't bother going down to the casino floor after 11:00 p.m. unless you're ready to be hustled...

I'll give you this one.

The "crap shoved down our throats" is actually our social investments. We invest heavily in education, medical care and our universities. They are the reason we have some of the best schools, health care and public universities in the entire U.S.

By the way, I would be a lot nicer to us Californians if I were a Las Vegas resident. Every time I head to and from Las Vegas, the 15 is packed with California license plates both ways and whether you want to admit it or not, those of us who can still afford to go to Las Vegas are helping to keep money flowing into your economy.

I try to make at least 4 trips to Las Vegas per year and I always bring at least three other people from LA with me, but maybe I'll change my plans and go up 395 to Reno/Tahoe instead?

I've never heard anyone from Reno bash California as incessantly as Las Vegans do, which is basically biting the hand that feeds you...Think about that for a minute.

I like Southern CA and CA in general, I have relatives in San Francisco, Rolling Hills in Palos Verdes, Tustin, Irvine, Aliso Viejo... nice place really. Expensive to live but nice. I don't like the traffic and the density. Too many people.

Along with resort fees and whatnot, you're just shooting yourself in the foot.

I agree, too high a room tax plus resort fees will in turn hurt our tourism industry. Local officials better think about it.

Last I check there are risks to any investment, what I see with Majestic Realty they want GUARANTEED return on investment and it does not matter if others will have to shoulder it.

Wow, lots of "our place is better than yours". If you like the area, then it is the best for you. I grew up in Santa Cruz, CA, and loved it as a kid. Since then I have lived in MA, NH, ME, RI, KY, TN, IL, WA, VT, PR, GA, and FL. For some reason I've never lived in NV, so we're going to go ahead and change that in June when we move there. I hope it's my new favorite!

How about culture? We have some of the best museums (Getty Center, Getty Villa, Huntington Gallery, LACMA, MOCA, the Norton Simon, the Nethercutt, the Reagan and Nixon libraries, and the soon to be Broad Art Gallery in Downtown LA). We have botanical gardens, the Walt Disney Opera House, the Almanson.

We've got the Dodgers, the Angels, the Chargers, tons of music and entertainment venues, great restaurants and very, very good universities (UCLA, USC, CalTech, Pepperdine, UC Irvine, UCSD)

Another nice thing about Southern California is that if you don't like the weather in one area, you can go to another area and it will be totally different. Big Bear Lake to Huntington Beach in just two hours! You can go skiing and surfing here in one day.

You can live in a safe, family-friendly cookie-cutter suburb like Temecula, Simi Valley and Valencia or a chateau in Lake Arrowhead, a ranch home in Acton or Agua Dulce, a bungalow in Ojai, or a small loft in an artsy place like Silverlake, Highland Park and North Hollywood.

We've got L.A. Live, the Grove, the Americana, CityWalk, Downtown Disney, Third Street in Santa Monica, the Beverly Center, Hollywood & Highland...

Southern California may not have been your cup of tea and that's cool, but to say that the only thing we have going for us is "the weather" is patently absurd! You really should have gotten out more!
I agree with you 100%. We have spent probably 200 or more nights in Las Vegas and know the city very well but we would never live there. In fact we don't even visit much anymore unless it is for some special event. We far prefer our local casinos. However, I am not going to bash Las Vegas, it is just a place we wouldn't like to live.

I am retired and we can live pretty well anywhere we want but we far prefer to live where we do in Southern California.

The funny thing is, there are people still waiting for the bottom to hit.
