I did. Metro pays very well for a lateral police officer (they were also the first department to call me back with an offer). I want to work in Motor-Carrier safety and the only department in Nevada that has it is NHP (commercial enforcement is something I am passionate about for reasons I would rather not get into). I eventually (I'm young) want to work for the United States Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration and the experience with NHP will prove to be in-valuable in the near future. LVMPD may not be a "filler" job, I can see myself staying here. I love my line of work and will do it where I can. My fiance makes alot more than me so if she finds a job somewhere else after school, then we will go. Every town has cops so it doesn't matter to me.

You drive taxi, and I am going after commercial enforcement, no wonder we do not see eye to eye. That is like the Butcher and PETA getting along.

Corrections Officer (will be Corrections Officer II as soon as my Nevada cert. is done in a few months), pretty straight forward from there. Yes, I work in the jail. I am assuming that you will go online and look at the base salary for a Corrections Officer because that is what you seem to like to do. Let me know what you come up with. I'm really interested.

Next factor in my 5 years of experience, my current Wyoming POST certification (although I am currently taking refresher courses through CSN to get Nevada certified), my bachelors degree in criminal justice and my biligual pay. Don't forget that I do about 10 hours of overtime a week (we are so short-staffed, you should apply). There! Would you like my social security number and DOB while we're at it? How about my DL number, that will help you in your quest to dis-prove what I am saying. Good luck.

BTW, 61 really isn't anything to brag about. There are officers in here making 6 figures with overtime and add-ons.

Yes they do. I enjoy my family time too and my overtime hours are limited because of my Certification Status. On that note, It's been fun, but now I have to head to work.

I have known people like that my whole life. I get a little satisfaction in arguing with them (I miss my college debate days).

Sheriff, you should stop by. The only catch is that you will have to be in cuffs to get back to where I work, but I'm sure we could arrange that.

I've read before that tourism only employs about a quarter of the workforce in the area and that the biggest employer is the military especially with Nellis Air Force Base.

Nevada is definitely one place I'm considering relocating to. If you want an unlivable area, try Washington, D.C., especially the Maryland side of the metro area. In 10 years over here, the average home will be a condo somewhere, not even a single family home anymore. People in any area south of west of here have it pretty good

There is gambling and stripping anywhere, the only difference is how its regulated. There are countless strip clubs in Baltimore located under railroad tracks or hidden in industrial areas.

My feeling is that Vegas is the last true "Worker's paradise", where one can make a living with blue-collar trades..a good one too. Compare the pay to florida, and laugh. Compare the jobs to the rust belt, which loses more each decade....compare the entertainment to Vegas, which has something to do 24/7.....I could think of a whole lot worse places for a workin' stiff to spend his days...
