I use to play online poker as my income but that is no longer allowed due to the government. I have played poker in Atlantic City before but i dont know like it as i'm from new york and need to take a bus there etc and come back. Also unless i have comped rooms, it isn't worth it. But AC is very depressing.

I have went to las vegas 3 times. The first time i went it was for a few days and after that trip i hated vegas because i was there for too short of a time and didn't have a plan. The 2nd time i came to vegas i came for a full 3 weeks. I played poker and did okay but then headed back home. After my 2nd trip, i learned a lot of taking buses in vegas and which casino is which. I also mainly play poker at the main poker rooms such as wynn, venetian, aria and bellagio but most of my time was spent at wynn and venetian so more towards the northend of the strip.

The 3rd time i went to vegas I bought a one way flight ticket because i wanted to see how long i could last before i leave vegas. I did pretty decent but my problem was i basically stayed at a strip hotel i was there. The thing was i got a decent rate during this period so thats why i did this. It was like 900/month. I did have to move from hotel to hotel due to that 14 day rule. The thing was i didn't want to stay at those places where they require you to stay 3 months, 6 month or 1 year etc. However i got way too stressed as i was eating unhealthy the whole time and that is what made me leave. I stayed for a full 3months.

I want to come back to vegas again. I would be playing strictly poker. There is no way i would be staying at a hotel casino ever again for that long. Does anyone know whats a better option for me? Is renting a room in someone's house the best option? The other thing is i don't know how to drive and while i was in vegas, i took the deuce/sdx bus a lot and it was fine for me. I mean, im from new york so here we take train/bus. I know for vegas locals, taking a bus is way too frustrating. But what neighborhoods are there where there is a bus closeby where it goes directly to the strip?

I read someone in a forum who moved to vegas who went there to play poker, simlar to me said he found a room to rent in someones house for $460 per month and its right on the bus line to the strip. I certainly dont mind paying $600 a month for a room in someones house if their house is close to the strip by bus.

Is that probably my best option? Or should i look at the extended stay places? It seems like the extended stay places cost $1000+ a month and most of them are in shady places. Is that true? OF course you have your privacy which is important for many people. The only 2 extended stay places that seem okay are blair house suites and holiday royale. However the holiday royale seems to be very far from the strip as i saw it when i took the shuttle and we went by it.

Of course if i know i would be staying for 1 year, getting an apartment with a lease is the best option. However if its short term, isn't getting a room the preferred way assuming someone doesn't know if they will leave in 2 months or 5 months or 1 year or more?

Go here MapQuest Maps - Driving Directions - Map

Print out the bus map.

Then start searching Craigslist everyday for "Rooms to Rent". max price put what you can afford.

Map out the rentals to where they are on the bus route - ones that are too far, scratch 'em.

The ones walking distance to bus stop, call up owner. Make appt to see place. Like it? Rent it.

Problem solved.

Check out this website where you can find places to stay at people's homes either by the night, by the week, and some by longer terms:

https://www.airbnb.com/

Some regular apartment complexes have lease terms that range from 1 month, 2 months, etc. as well as the more regular 12 months. If you go to a rental portal site like rent.com, you can put in the area you are interested in and when the complexes come up, read the rental terms in the details. The rents are somewhat higher with the shorter terms, but maybe you can find one to suit you.

Good luck.

Long-time member/lurker here but rarely post since others tend to keyboard 'my' response[s] faster than moi.

Whenever I'm looking for info I tend to use the 'search' function. I recall another thread where the CD member was looking for a higher quality roommate/landlord than he/she had been experiencing. The suggestion that worked best for that member was to post a CL ad in the 'Housing Wanted' section specifying what he/she wanted & had to offer in exchange. If you decide that renting a room is the best option for you than your ad might include: near strip, on bus line, etc...

A poker player lifestyle doesn't necessarily work for some potential roommates/landlords, I 'think' there's a section @ 2+2 that addresses [advertises?] temp housing options in Vegas.

Best Wishes.

Whatever you do, don't rent a room. Get your own place. I had to learn the hard way myself.

I came here to play poker... I bought a house.

I have to ask OP, how old are you? you don't sound very mature.

there are poker houses here in vegas that are shared homes with poker players all living there, I am sure that would be fine for you as long as you are respectful and mature. Otherwise, look on Craigslist for a short term situation, then when you get here, begin looking for a more permanent residence.
