The City of North Las Vegas has an ordinance that makes carrying a "dangerous weapon" in your vehicle illegal. There is a thread about it here:

Vehicle OC in North Las Vegas?

To the best of my knowledge, Las Vegas and Clark County do not have the same ordinance, though most casinos and many stores and medical facilities ban weapons on their property, which is within their rights.

Why would you want to open carry a long arm as opposed to a holstered sidearm?

It is the unarmed that empower the criminal ,and the criminal that seeks to disarm the armed .

Get a Concealed carry permit and train your self to deal correctly with the tool ,both for your safety and those under your care.
Things all over are getting bad , look at the unemployment rate across the country .
Just because the media supresses lot of information, doesn't mean things are peachy here or any where else .
Good luck finding a gun or ammo for that matter , current sales have back orders , and the volume of new men first time owners and women arming themselves is higher than it has ever been in the last year. Many of Wall mart's ammo cabinets are near empty people are buying up stock moments after it is on the shelf, and this is across the country.

From my experiences with sidearms I've found them to be very inefficient in my opinion. Not very accurate or reliable when it comes to working properly when needed I'd feel more comfortable with a firearm that I can operate safely and efficiently to the best of my skills but thats really just me though I respect anyones opinions to carry a sidearm its just long arms work better for me.

If you're guaranteeing your self anything, it would be a good number of unpleasant interactions with Metro, whether your open carry is legal or not.

Also, whatever strategic advantage have a long gun with you might confer in any sort of defense from a criminal attack, giving up the element of surprise a concealed handgun would give you, more than makes up for that. In point of fact open carry, especially of a long gun, makes you more of a target.

Get a Nevada CHL, get a good concealment rig, and keep it to yourself.

Note that open carry will get you hassled by metro anywhere near the strip or Downtown.

See the famous case of the AZ lawyer who was wearing an empty holster.

Yes open carry is legal. And yes it will get you hassled. Guaranteed

You can concealed carry on the strip including inside the casinos. They sometimes have metal detectors for shows. You can then check a weapon.

This is about the best advice anyone could provide ! If you are not familiar, LE in So. Nevada does not screw around, with 20 questions. If you are stopped , locked, loaded and uncased...yer gonna be there awhile ! If your reason to consider a long arm was because if any issue passing a background.....DO NOT ride around with a loaded long arm........and.....realistically......a long arm is not real effective in a situation where deadly force would be necessary........those situations escalate so quickly....and so unpredictable........you would probably never stand a chance.......furthermore, carrying a long gun exposed in a motor vehicle is an invitation to theft.......some things are better left unseen......the above OP gave you excellent advice........the pavement gets real warm in the summer months...
