WOW, lots of responses here! Well my name should kinda give it away on why I left. I joined the military out of High School. I have always missed upstate NY and still do. I grew up in Latham (Colonie). I lived in a beautiful area. I miss the "green", the lakes, the leaves in the fall and occationally the snow. My husband and I both have good jobs out here now and just can't afford to go anywhere else right now. My husband is a fire fighter and makes 3-4 times more here than he would in NY or the North East. We have investment homes in real estate etc. Someday I would consider moving back or maybe getting a summer home. However yesterday when I took my dogs out for a walk and nearly froze my butt off and was cursing winter I realized how much worse it is back there right now. I seriously hate the summers here almost as much as I hate the winters back there though. They are long and brutal. Las Vegas doesn't have the beauty and culture that you can find in NY. Lake Mead is gross. I'd never let my kids swim in it. Last summer I took my family to Lake George and Grafton Lake. They loved it. If I were rich I think I'd buy me a big home back there with a fire place and just pay someone to shovel my snow

I also love Upstate NY (Catskill area, work in East Greenbush)...heading to O'Toole's tonight on Central Ave to meet up with a friend and have a few beers. To be honest, this has been one of the more challenging winters up here. Recession has not been brutal here, though. Good luck in LV.
