NC is hot in the summer but you guys win the prize!
Where do you go for a week's vacation to escape the heat? I am planning
a family trip to Nevada/Utah and am looking at Zion--super hot though.
So Bryce becomes an option. Any other recommendations for
cooler spots/ Brian Head sounded affordable but friends have
said 9000 feet can cause altitude sickness if there for a quick
4 day visit.

Thanks.
Specific hotels/condo rentals would be most welcome. Thanks.

Most don't go that way, they go to San Diego or LA.

Santa Barbara. 5 1/2 - 6 hours but I have family there. San Diego is nice too.

Quite the contrary, North Carolina wins the prize for heat! We're talking heat/feel index, ever hear of it? Numbers are very deceptive!

It's 100 here with 10% humidity, you automatically shave off 5 degrees for the feel index, which I feel is understated. It's 95 there with 60% humidity, we're talking a heat/feel index of 114. Raise that humidity level to 70% and you have a 120 degree heat/feel index! So the prize is returned to you!

Las Vegans have the shortest drive of any SW desert city to cool off, just 35 miles NE to Mt. Charleston at 7700 feet, and bring your jacket along, if staying after sunset, leaving the Valley floor at 110 degrees!

To cool off, get out your Map, most cities give an altitude reading. There you go! Flagstaff, AZ @ 7000 feet! Does it ever get above 85 in Flagstaff, anytime of the year? And don't forget those cool evenings where you might need a light coat!

Cedar City, UT is up there close to 6000 feet, you might want to try that, before exploring Bryce or climbing up to Deer Valley at 10,000 feet!

Thank you for all the ideas. I loved Nevada when we've traveled there twice
in late October. I saw a weather site which said high of 110! possible in August and
got nervous. I
didn't realize 10% humidity there. Thanks again.
We'll share the prize (LOL)

Elko is more than 400 miles from Las Vegas. There are much cheaper, and more pleasurable, options if you're looking to cool off.

Brian Head. Nice there. And you should not get altitude sickness. I think the only time I had that happen to me, was going hiking at Mt Charleston on their hottest day and not being used to the altitude. Felt really bad. And nauseated. Very headachy.
