I am wanting to open a business in the Las Vegas area. What do you feel is mostly in demand? I do not currently live in Vegas, but plan to move to Henderson. Any idea's from current residents? What would you like to see?

Grocery store in the downtown area. You will have a line out of the door.

An independent (art house) movie theater/coffee house. Preferably right in the old Stoney's location on the South Strip.

Too expensive. I've got three of my guys in China right now working with our contract manufacturers. No way I was sitting on a plane for 15 hours.

There was a rumor floating around that Apple was going to start manufacturing in the U.S. but I doubt that it'll happen. If anyone has the money to pull it off though it's them.

Related note: I was reading something today that Chinese engineers pay ranges from $4000 - $40,000 but the assembly line workers make something like $0.25 an hour. It would be awesome if the U.S. could crank out cost effective product and Las Vegas would be a great place to do it.

Yes and the trash coming from China reflects the 0.25 and hour workers make over there.

They're manufacturing to a specification. American consumers don't want quality, they want a low price, and that's what's being delivered. Maybe, after the economy actually improves, you can convince people to demand a higher quality product, but don't count on it.

OP - Open a SMOG shop. I know the perfect location. I'll sell you that info for a small finder's fee. (I was/am considering starting that business myself).

Chinese assembly workers make from $10-20 per day depending on location, with a few premium areas paying a little more due to shortages. Maybe someone found a factory in the most distant part of the country and found some exploited workers making 25 cents an hour, but that is no where near the norm. Or more likely they did some math and said after they paid for their room and board all that was left over was 25 cents an hour, which would still be low but much more believable.

Wages of $2 per day in a factory aren't common anywhere international products are being made.

This. Pretty much all of Apple's products are manufactured in China, and they're considered very high quality. You can get stuff made there to whatever quality you want. You just have to be willing to pay for it. But whatever that price is, it'll be cheaper than building it here.
