Alright as the title states that I'am still high schoo of my final year. I need to know if I'm still in mynlast year of highschool and I'm 18. Can I move out? My parents keep on me a tight lock down. I do understand of keeping your child safe and pushing them forward to their best. Is it fair that I can't leave the house, can't go out with friends I bring as my puts it " they are bad influence" even though they all have 3.8 gpa with atheling college and if I miss one day of school, I'm an ungrateful.

I woul really just like to know the laws spurrounding a 18 year old still in high school, if I can move out?

Can you please site se sources to support the your responses and for me to read.

18 is a legal adult. It doesn't matter if you're in school or not. I remember writing my own school notes whe I was 18 and a señor in HS it used to really tick the teachers off.

That said how are you going to pay fr everything on your own if you move out?

Legally? Yes.

Financially? Not likely.

I would suggest the OP go back and reread their post...the OP is not ready for the world yet. Best to continue with learning how to read, write and other basics before thinking they have it all figured out.

At this rate the OP would find only find a future in jobs that require saying; "Would you like fries with that?".

I wish my almost 21 year old son would think like you. I can't get him to move out of the house and I would have been happy if he left at 18yrs. YES you can move out at 18yrs.

Mike,

As others have said, you can move out whenever you want. But if you don't want to be living in the storm drain tunnels, you need to be able to support yourself. Do you have a job, and one that pays enough to float an apartment and a car? If not, you need to put up with your parents and their rules.

College, Job, or Military.. There are your options.. If nothing else is going on once your graduate give the Air Force 4 years and go to school while your serve. The real world can be tough so don't take your decision lightly..

I agree with you 100% on the military. It would be excellent for someone coming out of HS who lacks direction and discipline. I went in when I was 17 yrs and although I didn't like it at the time it was the best thing that every happened to me. It gave me time to mature and find a career when I got out. Now I look back and they were some of the best years in my life. If you are smart stay in for 20yrs and then you have retirement income. I wish I had!!!

I am actually trying to push my son towards the military right now. The Air Force is the hardest to get in and has a waiting list. The Navy recruiter told me there is no wait. I'm not sure about the other branches yet.

Good advice from all for any senior in the valley thinking about what to do about school, life and career plans. Nothing for me to add.

Moderator should just make this thread a sticky for a while since these threads seem to be popping up more.

Freedom is an appealing thing, but it must be tempered with a dose of reality. As many have said, being on your own takes money, and if you aren't earning it you can't live on your own. Can you legally leave? Yes. Does that mean that you can do whatever you want while under your parents' roof? No. It is best that you have a plan if you decide to move. Crashing on friends' couches and bouncing from apartment to apartment isn't much of a lifestyle.
