I am biased because I love desert climates. That being said, I don't live in the desert. Someone from LV or Phoenix would have credibility on the subject.

My guess is you will quickly adapt and find it pleasant in ways the Pacific NW is not.

I am always cold so I love the summers here. We lived in Texas, Arizona x's 2, California, and Illinois before coming here. The blowing snow and four foot plus snow drifts in Illinois convinced me I am an out west kinda girl. California was my favorite, but too high cost of living. The winters here are a lot chillier then I would like but doable because there is no snow to shovel, it is all personal preference though, plan a trip in August and see if you can handle the heat, it isn't for everybody! So, summers for me 9, winters-5.

Because I worked for a large engineering company working in projects all over the world, I've lived in a large number of cities for a year or so. Here's how I would rate their climates:

New Orleans (Hometown) - 6.5 Too humid
Portland - 6.0 Too cloudy and rainy
Seatlle - 6.0 Too cloudy and rainy
Richland, Wa - 6.5 Too cold in winter and too windy in spring
Greenville, SC - 8.0 Not too hot or too cold
College Station, Tx - 6.5 Too hot
Mongolia - 5.0 Freezing cold
Shanghai - 6.5 Bearable but humid summers
Seoul - 7.0 Cold winters but sunny
Kandahar, Afghan - 7.5

I would have guessed that LV would have scored higher than most of the responses so far. Based on my visits, I think Socal climate is the best of anywhere I've been.

I suppose it's all a matter of perspective, but having lived in a number of colder, wetter climates I'd give Las Vegas a solid 8.5 for climate. IMHO it's one of the biggest attractions here.

I've previously lived in Minnesota (BRRR!) as well as Toronto & Chicago. I've done a lot of traveling throughout the US & parts of Europe, mostly for job-related stuff but also personal. I'd give Minnesota about a 3.5 for climate (frigid cold in winter, too humid in summer), Chicago about a 5.5 (summers great except for humidity) & Toronto about a 6.

Although it definitely gets hot here - 110 or 115 is hot any way you cut it - it's more manageable than some would have you believe. Humidity is generally very low except for a little while during monsoon season; I'm far more comfortable in 110 degree heat with no humidity compared to 90-95 & humid back in Chicago or Minnesota. YMMV.

A lot of people complain about the cold here but to me it's all a matter of perspective. I've experienced bitter cold, large snowdrifts & dreary grey skies in Dec/Jan/Feb most of my life. Here, it generally gets to 55-60 degrees in Dec/Jan & it's sunny almost every day. Yes, please! I'll take two. I can often go outside in shorts mid-day during the coldest months of the year. That's alright with me.

Here's the few downsides you'll find: Wind is higher than average - at times it will be a nuisance, blowing quite strongly at random times. On the days when it combines with 110-115 degree heat, it will feel like a hair dryer hitting you in the face. Stay inside those days. Don't go crazy outside in July & August & plan your errands accordingly - just about every place has the A/C cranked indoors during those months anyways. Overall, it's a small tradeoff IMHO for Sunny days over 90% of the time & low humidity.

Yes the summers are HOT but its a DRY Heat!!! haha

I would rate Las Vegas an 8. Hot in the summer and can be windy at times but overall it's great. Everyday is sunny and clear views of the mountains are spectacular.

*Full disclosure I lived in San Diego before moving to Las Vegas. I like Las Vegas weather better....yup I'm THAT guy. San Diego is nice but it's monotonous I like a little variation in the weather.

I love the mild Winter, sunny Spring/Fall seasons and I don't really mind the hot Summer but sometimes it gets humid here as well so I'll give it an 8.
