UT Governor refuses to sign agreement, to share a groundwater basin, a move that could trigger a water war. Water Authority Pat Mulroy says we need the water for the Las Vegas Valley to survive.

What are your thoughts on this? Alternatives?

One alternative Pat suggested, some time ago, was to build a water pipeline from the Mississippi river, costs to be shared by all the states that would benefit from it: TX, NM, AZ, NV, CA and Baja Mexico.
Why let all that water flow into the Gulf of Mexico!!! If we can build gas/oil pipelines stretching across the country, why not a water pipeline!!!

A moratorium on new housing construction, which should have been done 5-10 years ago? And just think what the value of our houses would be worth today if that had happened, with a diminished supply!!!

Personally, I'd like to send the Governor of UT a Thank-you card!

A great subject Tij...

I think the Governor is suicidal. Nothing good happens to Utah as a result. Only Bad...

SNWA should now simply petition for all the available water from the Snake Valley and then set about collecting it. UT may very well lose the suit for failure to negotiate in good faith.. Take 20 years to resolve but UT is very unlikely to make out.

And Ms Mulroy is just mean enough to pull it off..

The Utah Gov is making the right decision. Las Vegas valley has plenty of water and there is no need for the valley to keep growing. Who is behind this growth mantra are the realtors and developers and the chamber of commerce.

The plain fact of the matter is that there is plenty of water in the Colorado River for southern Nevada. What is needed is a serious control program on the Colorado River for the invasive imported Tamarisk tree which sucks up millions of acre feet of water a year from the river.

Building the pipeline to Snake river basin would be a costly mistake.

Water conservation should always be practiced here in Clark County regardless of whether Lake Mead is at full capacity or half empty. The fact of the matter, the SNWA was losing money because of the conservation efforts in Clark County and as a result SNWA is now encouraging people to place turfs on their homes. Is SNWA really serious enough to tackle our problems or are these people just all about money and not so much about our water resource and its importance to life for us here in Clark County now and in the future?

Utter nonsense. The one consistent thing about SNWA is the dislike for grass.

SNWA will always raise rates if its conservation campaign works. It will also raise rates if growth is limited. SNWA paid many major expenses by taxing growth. No growth it has to have another source.

SNWA makes no money. It is in fact a public agency.

^^^^Better do some research, revenue is down for SNWA because of conservation and as a result they are no longer against people putting turf in their homes.

They have in no way reversed and continue to offer the option.
