Memorial Day is May 26th. If your travel falls on that weekend, it could change the response from people.

Then from LA Sunday afternoon 3-4pm to Vegas?

You are going against the heavy traffic flow. You should be fine.

I agree - no problems going against traffic.

Hi ToeJam,

No I'd planned around this day.

The Saturday for travel from Anaheim to Las Vegas will be 10th May.
What time should I leave Anaheim for the fastest journey to Vegas?

Again, happy to hit the road at 4am or if that will still be crazy, then aim for later in the day, however still want to grab the outlets outside of Vegas for a shopping session.

If there is traffic, it will most likely be between Anaheim and Barstow. There is a fork at Barstow and vacation travelers usually take the 15 to Vegas or the 40 to Lake Havasu / Laughlin / "The River". the earlier you can get on the road, the better off you will be, but I doubt it will be so bad that you will want to get up at 4am.

Guess I'm just being cautious, heard all the bad reports of bumper to bumper traffic between LA and Vegas.

Looking at opening times of the outlets in Primm, it would be best if we arrive in Primm between 9:30 and 10, then head over to ride Desperado before continuing on to Vegas. So if we hit the road by 6am, is it likely this will work out? Then leave for Vegas from Primm around 1-2pm, is this leg of the journey usually busy?

It has been my experience that once you make it to Primm, it's usually clear the rest of the way. (Except for possible accident-based jams in the Las Vegas area.) It's the 30 miles of road before Primm where I usually experience the worst problems.

It has been my experience that except for holidays or the occasional accident the traffic between Vegas and LA is not that bad. In the past 2 years either I, my wife, or the 2 of us together have traveled to Vegas on perhaps 80 Fridays leaving hitting Barstow anywhere between 4PM and 8PM. Of those 80 trips, we have hit miserable traffic just 3 or 4 times. Yes there are slow spots just about every trip but they last no more than a few minutes. Trips back to So Cal are Sunday mornings getting out of Vegas between 8-830. Only twice have we hit bad traffic.

Thanks everyone, looks like I'm more worried than I need to be.

Cheers for the advice.
