Welcome to MGM Resorts International
However, you said specifically that Silver (or Silvery, as you call it) Legacy is not an MGM property, which it clearly is if it has 51 percent ownership. Who runs the casino has nothing to do with who the property's majority owner is.

This outrageous statement isn't really so outrageous. I didn't take a single U.S. history course until college. Prior to that it was all Hawaiiana.

Let's face it - Clark County pays most of the bills for the rest of Nevada. The other 16 counties know it but won't admit it. So they hate us for being what they can never be. It's really silly, because the other counties contribute so much more to Nevada's whole persona than Clark County does with all of our 2 million carpetbaggers

We should recognize that we are one great state and enjoy all the good things each county offers. He**, we're larger than most countries on this planet. You want to live here? You should have to take a course in Nevada History 101 before you get a driver license.

I'd be willing to bet that at least half of the residents in Clark County think the "state" is Las Vegas.
One thing I will say about Reno and Northern Nevada is that I think they have a better grasp on the state's heritage than Las Vegans do.

I was in Las Vegas for Halloween once and I had to go to CVS for some bottled water. The cashier had a tag identifying her as being from Las Vegas. So then I asked her, "are you one of those rare species known as a Las Vegas native?" and she blushed and said, "yes, I was born and raised here." I jokingly said, "wow! can I take a picture?" and she blushed some more.

Before leaving I said, "well, happy Nevada Day to you!" and she gave me this contorted look like "what the heck???". So, I said, today's Nevada Day -- the day your state officially joined the union. She looked even more confused. I left it at that and went about my merry way.

Oh well. But, yeah, I doubt that sort of interaction would happen in Reno. They have a better grasp of state history up there, it seems.

Well, I'm not sure how old the young lady was, but they officially stopped celebrating Nevada Day on Halloween years ago because some religious types didn't want the kids thinking they got the day off of school for Halloween. ((Oh Heavens)) So she may not have made the mental connection.

I've lived in both Reno and Vegas. The two cities have totally different vibes. Whoever said up thread that it sounds like the Northern California vs. Southern California thing was dead on. People in So. Nevada who vote for gov. candidates in No. Nevada are really shooting themselves in the foot.

I can tell you from personal experience that the high schools in the Reno area were far superior to the ones in Vegas, even back in the eighties. That said, I don't think I would move back there unless it was in consideration for a great job or if I still had school-age children.

Maybe she was confused because CVS does not have a UNION...

Nevada Day is still a state holiday. They moved it to Friday to extend the weekend, much like they do for most holidays.

Again, that is something celebrated only in the north to any extent.
