I know in vegas, homes are very cheap compared to homes in ny and california. The same with rent. I see people talking about renting a 2 bedroom place in vegas where it cost 900/month. Of course you then have to add utilties.

What I'm confused about is how there are many ppl who rent at those extended stay places in vegas where even if you rent monthly for a 1 bedroom, it cost around $1000 per month. Though there are some extended stay places that are cheaper but still its at least $800 at the minimum. Then there are some extended stay places where its 1200/month and bit better but still they are pretty much all the same it seems.

Is there a reason why ppl would rent at places like this as oppose to just rent a 1bedroom or 2bedroom place in vegas like in spring mountain, summerlin or henderson or any other good vegas neighborhoods?

I know the thing thats good about extended stay places is there isn't a lease so you could rent weekly or monthly but those places aren't necessary safe and the ppl in those places are well not good. Of course you also dont have to buy furniture etc but i read how many ppl live at extended stay places for a very long time. Why dont they get an apartment that would be pretty much similar price in a good neighborhood as oppose to staying at a place like this?

Is there a reason why ppl would rent in an extended stay place would pay 1000/month in a place liek that as oppose to rent a 1 or 2 bedroom place in a nice place in vegas where you would be paying less rent? Well after utitlies its more but if you are having a roommate or even renting 1 bedroom, surely it would be less than paying 1k a month? Im really confused at why ppl would overpay 1000/month in a horrible place.
Is it b/c they have no credit and thus can't get a real apartment? The thing is i know there are ppl who have money but not a lot but why would they stay at a place like this and not immediately move into an apartment?

If you need a place for only a month, an apartment is not a viable option, since a lease is involved. The extended stay places are a short-term fix for many.

Weeklies provide a way for someone to "make payments" on a monthly lump sum that otherwise would be difficult to pay altogether. Plus weeklies are all inclusive. Water, power, cable, rent, furniture plus no background checks.

What more can a person with a difficult background ask for?

By short term fix for many, how long do you mean?

I can understand if someone wants to stay at an extended stay for 1 month or 2 while looking for apartments or just a short term stay, but there has to be lots of ppl who staying there for 1 year plus. Why would they choose this as oppose to getting 1 bedroom apartment?

Scott456 pointed out some good reasons.

After 2009 a lot of people went through some tough times. A couple of years ago on the news, they reported that our school system had a record number of students being registered with extended stay addresses. Some families don't know where their next $$$ will come from. Better to take it a week at a time than to come up with the whole enchilada at the beginning of the month.

I've stayed in Extended Stay's for a week at a time when traveling, including a week in Vegas. I stayed at one on Boulder Hwy. I found myself wondering about many of the residents in these places. They were long term renters and I spoke to some of them, the ones that would talk anyway. All seemed to have lost jobs or just seemed to have shaky backgrounds. I know several I spoke to had lived in them for months even a year. As was mentioned one doesn't need a job, or a background check, no utilities or internet to pay for. There is a small kitchen and dishes and silverware, pans. So there needs are met on that level anyway. I don't know where they would get the money though. Even though you pay weekly that ends up at the end of the month. It is more expensive than an apt that is for sure. I think if its over a months stay you don't pay the room tax, though I'm not sure how that works. I know I was told that by some of these residents there, that they had been there long enough not to pay that tax. It seems like a lonely way to live. I felt sorry for some of these people. Seems like they have no way out, sort of like they have hit a dead end.

All utilities included + the convenience of being able to pay on a weekly basis vs monthly basis. People just moving into town not wanting to be tied to a longer lease while looking for work also stay on the extended day places. Some have bad credit including foreclosure on their record but it does not matter with these weeklies. There are still decent people living in those extended places but there also plenty of undesirables. Clark County is a transient place so the weeklies/monthly places will always be popular, even for tourists visiting town. When the Strip is charging 200 or more per night, tourists will stay and pay for one week for much less than what Strip hotels charge per day.

I lived at a Budget Suites for about two months while my house was being completed. Why would anybody stay there as opposed to an apartment? Money. I checked apartments, and by the time I got done with all the deposits, first and last month's rent and utility deposits, it would have been like coming up with a second down payment - just for a temporary place to stay.

You have no utility deposits or utility bills, no security deposits and you have the flexibility of paying by the week (we paid for a month at a time because we knew we would be there that long, and we got a discount for it). There is no lease, so when it's time to go, you settle up with the office and leave.
