I have found the above to be profitable in the long run.
Because I'm not a real betting person. It's something to do when passing a machine. To be honest I really don't know what the machine payout may be. As mentioned for me it's the buffet. I just happened to notice when I did visit a casino I have not seen not any people doing the happy dance but I have seen a few people leaving crying crocodile. tears..

Now get this. I went to a Station casino for the free swipe promo for the days of Mon and Tue of this month. Today I had a free S5.00 slot play along with a free $5.00 slot play for a total of $10.00. Well I walked out with $7.00. So tomorrow morning I will take a buy one get one free ticket from the monthly promotion and drag a nephew to a feeding at breakfast.. I plan to eat at least a pound of sausage so in this instance I say.. Call me a bettin sucka.. Excuse me do you have any corned beef hash?

People don't know the difference between probability and odds either. They see the casinos boast about their odds of winning at the slots and think it is probability which would be much more favorable with those same numbers. It's not false advertising because it is not the casino's fault that people don't know the difference. They bank on it - there is a reason they say odds of winning as opposed to probability of winning.

You may think this is crazy, but my brother has a dice coach. He teaches him how to throw the dice so that the odds can be tipped back towards the player in craps. My brother swears by this method and he is not what I would call a whimsical fellow. Some the casinos will boot out players using this method when they see it, so there might be something to it.

I've had so many trips to LV since the early 80's (about 2 - 5 times a year) and now we bought a condo and can spend 6 months a year here and yes, gambling is still on my weekly list of things to do. Gambling is like surfing - You can be up on the top of a wave but eventually you'll fall off and it takes a while to get back up. I play poker now as much a possible, generally recreational tournies or limit as you are not playing against the house and I can get the highest return on my $ and not spend a lot at least breaking even or bringing money home. I have had good and bad sessions with slots. I once arrived with hardly any gambling money with some friends and won a progressive red/white/blue 7's at Slots of Fun and won $11,000 with just a $5 bet and other times have plugged $40 in a machine and not even been paid out for a cherry....I only play the "fun" slots now and am totally prepared to lose that money for entertainment. If I hit anything over $20 I usually cash out and stick $5 in another slot machine....They actually seem kind of boring after playing poker. :-)

When playing table games over buy in when you sit down. The bit boss will look to see how much you bought in for and when he comes around to your table increase the bets if you can ( let him see you gambling more than you really are ). Also take chips off the table when pit boss is not around ( it is your money ) to appear you lost more than you have. After playing don't be afraid to ask for any comps you desire.
I have also received comps from stations casino for video poker play. Once a month I put a few hundred into the machine and cash out if I am up or down 20 dollars. Once again over buying in has helped me with the comps and I turn a -EV situation to a +EV situation in receiving comps. Try it and good luck.

I am afraid of the addictive element to gambling. I've hear so many horror stories of people and their compulsion to gamble. Do they design the machines to program your nervous system or something?

It's funny you mention that. All financial information I read/study comes from print sources. I can't stand watching financial "news" on TV. Tickers, Graphs, Lights - so much information being thrown at you that no responsible investor could ever need or use. I believe it's to keep people buying, selling, churning.

The first time I walked through a casino here in town I couldn't help but think of the financial news stations.

The addictive part only comes into play if you hit and then kep chasing the next hit. It's either you have it or you don't. Slots to me can get boring and giving away cash to a casino to me is a sucker bet. Sure it can be fun but a casino is worse than a spouse or mate who just doesn't care about you or your money. Once you give them all your money they don't care about you. A casino will take your last penny (Notice penny slots) and not care. As long as you know this and are happy with that then the addiction part becomes playing a foll. Just like in a realationship.. "Baby needs new shoes"..

There are also video poker machines scattered throughout the valley that pay over 100% *if* you play absolutely perfect strategy. Just a handful of mistakes every 1,000 hands and you'll dip below 100%

BVS sells play-at-home software that can train you in perfect strategy. I believe it's also legal to have a cheat sheet with you, as some people do at the blackjack tables.
