I agree two 10$ an hour jobs may not be where you want to end up.
It might be a realistic place to start.
Every GREAT job I ever had, I got because I took some crap job to get by.
Either I got moved up, or I met someone who put me onto a better job.

I also heard you can often move up quickly as there tends to be a lot of turn over.
This of course may depend greatly on your industry.

Def willing to take whatever I can find to get going. I work two jobs now, and would do the same there.

As I stated before, we are thinking of living in an extended stay hotel for a little while until we can find a place to lease. Someone suggested Harbor Island, but I found not so good information on it when I did a search of the property. Does anyone else have any information about it? Or other suggestions? Someone suggested Budget Suites of America, does anyone have any opinions on that? I know it can be a little sketchy staying in an extended stay hotel, so if anyone else has any other suggestions outside of that, those would be greatly appreciated as well!

I hesitantly suggested Harbor Island for it's location, but you but be in a front unit...not in the back units.

You never answered how many cars between you...one between two people will be a big problem especially if one is working and still job hunting. Sure there's busses, but they aren't really that practical for most people.

I realize you hesitantly suggested it. I was just asking about what I had found online.

As far as cars, I am currently living in a small town with virtually no public transportation, and am able to make it work for me, so in doing research, I think I could make the public transit work... I realize I could be wrong, but I am willing to try! My friend will have her car as she is preparing to have to commute to a school district. Worst case scenario, I would look into buying a car once I get there.

In that case I would caution that working one job and searching another is going to be VERY frustrating at best and seem impossible at worst.

AS for the weekly stay places...none of them are very good...just think of the type of people whom are attracted to them overall...you may be temporarily in the same situation and not like those people, but think of what kind of people are perpetually in that situation and you'll get a picture of your neighbors.

In your situation, I would strongly suggest pushing for that transfer and or saving up more money.

Why put yourself in a dire situation if you don't have to?

I am strongly working on transferring, and is seeming like a very good possibility. The two managers I have spoken to already have both said they were very interested and to let them know when I am heading out there. Im not naive in thinking that this will guarantee me a spot, but it was positive to hear. I do not have a date set in mind and will just continue to save my money until I feel comfortable with going, however, I am 25, and am definitely in need of a change in scenery. THanks for the information!

Good luck to you...do you have a proposed date in mind?

Know that it slows down a lot in the winter and many places stop hiring or even lay off/cut hours.

Is your credit good?

Thank you! We are tentatively looking at mid to late august. or at the latest early september. I am aware that hiring slows during the slower months. As you suggested earlier in this thread, my priority is more about getting there then the job that I get. I am definitely not looking for an executive management position and am willing to work in any position. My friend and I both of moderate to good credit. and we both have good rental history. Our moving date depends primarily on if either of us lands a good job, otherwise, we are not rushing into anything.

This is smart!

I'm the last person to be negative about this place....I love it here, but I'll be one of the first to advise be smart about coming here.
I've never see such long hiring processes anywhere else but these casinos.

That is good to hear!

My friend is flying out there the first week in august to visit schools and talk to principals. She is also thinking about visiting apartments and a couple extended stay hotels in the area as well. Does anyone have any suggestions on apartment complexes that are reasonably priced, located near the strip, and in a relatively safe location?
