Ok everyone, my friend is going to be in Las Vegas from Aug 4th thru the 8th to hopefully snag a teaching job and look at apartments. Are there any that you could suggest she take a look at? Obviously she doesnt know where yet she will be teaching, but she is willing to have to commute. Would love any suggestions! Thanks!

Default Thinking of moving from Oregon to Las Vegas

My fiancé and I are thinking of moving to Nevada, because we want out of Oregon. Its dead out here, no jobs whatsoever. We have a 1year old son and we can't make a living or raise a family here. I'm originally from Brooklyn, NY and we all moved out here for a better start hoping that we can make it. Sadly, we are slowing drowning in Oregon. I'm doing research on Las Vegas, looking for apartments, jobs and motels. My fiancé does general construction and labor, and HVAC. I'm a memory care giver. I was wondering if anyone can help me out and know of any construction, HVAC or apprentice electrician jobs or Caregiving jobs that are available?? I'd really appreciate it. And also, how is it like to live out in Nevada?? Which are the safe nice areas to raise a family??
Thank you.

Lots of restaurants hiring. It took my step-daughter less than 1 week to get a job when she got here. Granted, it was at Applebees.

Bring 6 months of living expenses and you should have no problem finding a job here with your experience and attitude.

Our monthly bills here are $2500-$3000, and we don't scrimp. You should be fine for 6 months with $20K.

There's no way they could be 3000 just saying I have 1800 now(south Florida by Boca) and that is with 900 a month rent and it will be cheaper in vegas for what I have learned on the websites

Sure, you can get a cheap apartment. I just don't want to live in one of those. We pay $1550/mo rent (incl. landscaping and trash), $150 cable/internet, $80 phones, $350 car payment, $150 avg for electric, $60 gas (home), $120 gas (car), $140 car insurance, $300 food.. That's $2900 off the top of my head.

Wow, your food bill is quite low for 2 people. I average $1000-1200 per month for food for family of 5.
