It's been dumped on the Clark County Commissioner's lap, to approve an additional 1/4 percent increase in the sales tax to hire more police officers. The tension is killing me: will they approve it or not?

I hope so! With those additional police officers, I'll feel secure/safe enough not to lock my doors at night and I'll leave my car doors unlocked as well with the keys in the ignition!

What do you think? Will they or will they not?

And if they do, will you all feel safer here in Las Vegas?

Im not sure what is going on, but there seems to be plenty of beat cops. They are usually faceless so if the same ones are working double overtime then yes. If they need more detectives or special activities officers, I couldnt tell you. From street level, I would say not needed.

When has a politician NOT approved more budget for the police?

Crime is at historic lows but "fiscally sensible" always loses out to "tough on crime."

I would oppose any tax increase that was specifically meant for Metro. If Dougie can show that he's reigned in his thugs, then maybe. The last time we played this tax game, the money did not hire more cops.

We did get to pay for lots of lawsuits against Metro though.

I have a gut feeling this new tax will pass no matter what some members of CC commission are saying.

how do we know the new tax will be used to hire new police officers, and not just to pay bonus and more benefits to the current officers?

I'll bet if you were at the soccer game at Sam Boyd stadium this week for the soccer match you would wish their was more cops. With over 40 million visitors a year and 2 million residents you never have enough cops.

Besides this tax hike will or did the CC vote for the 3 cent tax increase on the gasoline tax and this is a 3 cent tax I hear for the next 4 years. The 1/4 cent tax increase for Metro should be approved because this was voted on by the voters years back. But you do have one CC that might not vote for it because he has dreams to run for Governor I do not like the 3 cent gas hike specially that oil over 100 per barrell again
