Who do you guys use? We have a few very tall (multiple stories) Mexican fans in the backyard that need thinning. Don't need anything super special, just someone responsible who knows what they're doing to come out and take care of them. First time they've seeded since we've been here and they're looking ratty.

Thanks in advance, guys!

I've used Mauri Tree Company for years; they're great. They trim my palms and other trees and also do deep root fertilization.

Thanks, I actually had them out to cut down a couple huge pines when we first moved in. Found them a bit expensive but maybe this service won't be as much since it's not quite as specialized. Got free pomegranates too ;-) Worth giving them a call for a quote, I suppose.

A - There is virtually always a couple of neighborhood guys. Ask around. i don't know who does mine as it is contracted through my gardener. Some decrepit looking old guy shows...puts on his equipment and scampers up the tree like he was twelve. My guy hauls and packages the fronds for him. i pay $35 a tree. The going rate in Sun City Summerlin is $25 a tree.

I have a very good tree guy but he is expensive...$50 a tree.

I haven't used them yet, but you can request a free estimate online from Affordable Tree Service. I have them coming out today for a quote. They told me I didnt even have to be home they would email me the quote which is nice. Yelp has some kind of deal for them too.

Well they quoted me $175 to reduce a chaste tree to half it's size. That's definitely more than I wanted to pay.

It is the second time that I read about a $25 cost per Mexican Fan palm for Summerlin.
How do they get this good rate? Do they contract for the whole community?
What company do they use?

No you did not read that. Sun City Summerlin and Summerlin are two different places.

Frugal pools in Sun City. And they are good at it.

I expect that the good prices achieved in Sun City are offset by the bad prices in the rest of Summerlin.

So if you want the Sun City price...move there.

I had Affordable out for a quote last year to remove two huge pines--ended up going with Mauri because I got a better vibe from the guy. Paid a lot but whatever--I'm not in the tree business and I'm not the one shimmying up there and risking my life ;-)

Neighbor's gardener ended up coming over to do the palms..charged me $80 but they were really scruffy so it was worth it to me. He does a great job on the neighbor's place every week.
