The steak and eggs special at Ellis Island is, IIRC $4.99. And it's a surprisingly good steak.

Its 9.99 now, but if you gamble $5 you get $2-off coupon.

Gamble, not necessarily lose.

In the long run, yes, necessarily. Remember that casinos only care about velocity because they already have the vigorish locked in. The losers lose. And the winners also lose. Las Vegas exists because most* people have difficulty grasping this on a fundamental level. They're so focused on their "free" gift, they lose sight on what they're doing to obtain their "free" gift.

* Truth be told, I don't know whether 50%+1 of the population will gamble if given the chance. But since most people don't seem to get how the vig works (or they understand it but don't care), I'm going to go with "most" instead of "many."

Regardless, America as a whole has serious issues when it comes to probability and statistics.

Well if all you do is gamble $5 for the $2 off coupon each time you want a meal, and you quit regardless of whether you win or lose that bet, then the casino will lose money in the long run. Of course that's not what the casinos are counting on. They expect people to continue playing afterwards in which case the casino will win. It's just like the match play vouchers casinos always give. If all you ever do is use match play vouchers, and you quit win or lose, in the long run you'll beat the casino. But that's not what most people do.

If most people did, the casino would shut it down in a hurry. These "loss leaders" obviously work -- because I get them in my mailbox all week long and I never, ever, ever take them up on it. So they don't even get my single match-play bet. They lose printing costs and postage on me. Never to recoup it.

Frankly, I'd love to have that kind of racket going for myself. If it were legal, I would open "Scoop's House of Coin Flips" in a split second. Only one bet available -- $100.

Losers lose $100. Winners are paid out their original $100 and $90 in winnings. For each 100 games a gambler plays, I'll give him or her a free toaster. I'll also provide all the free cheap drinks and generic cigarettes the gambler wants as long as they're betting on coin flips. Roughly 10 games each minute. Free turkeys on Thanksgiving. Free Happy Meals from McDonalds. Whatever cheap crap the gambler wants, I'll provide.

Just keep betting C-notes on coin flips.

Any takers?

Similar to Casino War. I'm not about the "instant gratification".. I enjoy time spent playing the games. A coin flip wouldn't do anything for me, but I'm sure you'd get quite a few people who would do it. There are gamblers out of desperation, and there are those of us who do it for enjoyment
