Hello,

I will be traveling to Las Vegas to work on contract Sept-Jan, 2014. Is anyone familiar with the condos on Falcon Head Road? Curious as to the safety of the neighborhood. Apparently, this area is zoned for Katz Elementary--any info on this school? Also, are there any good private Chrisitian schools in the area either near Falcon Head Road or Valley Hospital?

I, personally, don't know about Katz. There are, however, several excellent private schools in the area. For faith based, I like the Faith Lutheran schools, but I'm not sure if there are elementary ones that close; you'd have to check. The other private schools are very good also, I'm sure.

Katz is a twin school in that zone between Vegas Blvd and Summerlin Parkway and between Buffalo and Rampart.

Katz is OK - not great. The neighborhood is a mixed one that I kind of like. Nobody there is rich but they ain't starving either. Great access to parks and such and shopping and restaurants. You can actually walk places if it is not too hot.

Place has easy access to Faith Lutheran and some of its feeders. If you can put up with the Catholics there is a fine grade school at Mother Seaton....It is one on of the Las Vegas Catholic parishes...the well loved Monsignor went to jail for ripping off the till to cover gambling debts...

The difference is the areas have $30,000 difference in household income.

CCSD is CCSD. If you want your kid to get a better educational experience, look at the Magnet programs. They can be fantastic and inspiring. It's one of the beauties of Las Vegas: you pretty much get to choose the public school your kid can go to in Vegas.

My daughter's class size will pretty much get cut in half this coming school year(magnet). Last school year's class size peaked at 36. Her new school says between 15-20 students per class.

CCSD's class sizes are a major issue out here. Especially for elementary.

I coach between 12-14 kids for soccer. I can barely keep these kids in check WITH their parents watching. Imagine 36 with their parents gone for several hours.

I'm backing up the comment for magnet schools. They bus to your area, so transportation is covered. As an alumni, I really vouch for their programs. I'm not sure what kind of elementary magnet programs they had, but middle school and mainly high school is where it'll benefit the most IMHO.
