Clark County is in the top five districts of teachers "moonlighting" as "mutually beneficial dates" for "sugar daddies."

Basically, Clark County has a high percentage of teachers supplementing their income as amateur prostitutes.

Why people flock here, especially the ones with kids in school, is beyond me

You should keep this link to the webpage for the next person who asks where the good schools are in Vegas. People with kids in school have a right to know about this.

Shameful, and I'm quite surprised at some of those other school districts mentioned as well. Even those high salaried teachers ones

Thanks for posting it!

[mod edit-- personal]Do you recognize that listed schools are among the ten largest in the US? You are surprised that large schools systems have large numbers of teachers?

There are no real numbers...and at that they are self proclaimed.

[mod edit- personal, baiting]

I thought you had kids out here as well? Don't forget that thousands of families that get stationed out here not by choice.

Last year we helped our teacher out with about $800 worth of school supplies. That money barely put a dent in the amount she really needed. Another parent helped cover half the cost of a field trip(well over $2000). Which later got canceled because of "budget issues."

Last but not least, I watched our music teacher almost cancel two school performances because parents said that they could not afford the T-shirts or transportation to the event. Rumor is, the teacher took out a small loan to pay for everything herself.

And I do believe teachers regularly come out of pocket for breakfast and lunch for the kids.

I really don't know what to say about a teacher that will go out of her way to earn extra money for her students. Taking out loans is one thing but meeting guys for money is...

They say the average is $35k for teachers but our teacher was in her second year so I assume she was making less. This falls back on CCSD and the parents for sending their children to school unprepared.(hungry, no food and without necessary supplies)

C'mon now, because school districts have large numbers of teachers, this should be SMILED upon?

Get real and call a spade a spade. The CCSD stinks, and yes, a lot, but not all, teachers and various and assorted administration personnel have questionable behaviors.

Yes, I have kids in school and I went through the CCSD myself, all 12 years of it.

That's why I can say, in an honest opinion, the CCSD STINKS!!

But do you honestly believe 40% of teachers are Whores? Was every one of your teachers bad?

But several times you have mentioned your displeasure for CCSD and that you don't know why others flock to the city with kids, yet you went through the system and now you have kids in the system.

What are YOU doing to help besides saying CCSD sucks?

This thread strikes me as tremendously judgmental. LV has a great number of faults, but typically we are less judgmental as a community than many other places. I think that it is possible to be a wonderful teacher AND a dancer/entertainer/escort/etc.

Our teachers are woefully underpaid, and our citizens are incredibly undereducated. There is no denying this, and the scores back it up. When you consider what our economy is largely based upon, this is not to be particularly unexpected. I'd love to see more money being funneled into all segments of NV education, but we all know that this is not going happen.

In the meantime, I'd encourage everyone reading this thread to contribute in any way that you can (time, money, supplies, encouragement) to our educational system. While the opening tone of this thread is atrocious, I'd love to see this thread spin into suggestions of more positive ways that we can change our community and educational system.

It's about to be 5 years that I have been involved with CCSD because of my daughter and my school-aged cousins-in-law that live out here.

CCSD is a difficult organization.

Instead of going against the entire organization, it is much easier/better to focus on individuals. Whether it's the teacher or principal. (I like to keep issues at the lowest level possible) Build a bond with teachers, keep open communication with teachers, ask them what they need, invite them to parties, have your child stay after school to help out with whatever he/she needs if possible. Gotta make those PTA meetings also. I think I heard something like 30% of the student's parents or guardians never make a single meeting.

During Open House(which should be coming up soon up for everyone), every parent or guardian should let the new teacher know how they can help their new teacher throughout the year. And vice versa.
