Hi everyone
Thanks for the advice & education.
I will have to see if antenna even an option.
Spoke w/mr antenna yesterday - really a nice,
Low key guy.

He told me I had to check w/the condo HOA to
See if they can put the equipment on the roof.
Hundreds of papers transferred for condo &
Don't know who that is.
He also said a south facing balcony maybe ok.
Pretty sure mine is west!

So have to get to the basics. Was excited though
About getting away from cable companies!

The only channel difficult to receive in the valley is channel 3 the NBC affiliate. You could probably get away with an outdoor antenna mounted on the balcony instead of having to go to the roof.

depending on where you live; indoor antennas work just as good as outdoor antennas and are alot easier to setup (just plug in and search for channels.)

Go to this website and type your zipcode; it will tell you what channels come through your location and what type of antenna will pick them up.... i.e. a small indoor antenna or a multi-directional outdoor antenna.

Default Antenna

My experience has been that indoor antennas do not pick up anywhere near the number of stations as an outdoor antenna, I've tried it. The selection of antenna is important, you want to get the entire broadcast range possible, stations 0 through 75 I believe

Hi thanks again everyone.
Talked to HOA today. Need board approval for any outside equip (even dishes). This takes 3 weeks yet since I will be new I have no idea if they are challenging or if this is standard & generally approved.
She also said I will need a local phone #
To open the Gate remotely.

The antenna signal website (w/my condo address ) lists all of their channels as requiring multidirectional antennaes. This is probably because it is a condo.

It looks like I don't really have a choice but to get a min cable channel pkg w/cox as one poster recommended (buy the toys later as needed). This is good advice - mr antenna
Said the balcony would have to face south &
It faces west.

The conclusions seem to be defined for me
Cox Internet & some kind of basic cable Pkg
Since I do want to upgrade the t v I could then add a Roku or Hulu subscription.

I believe I need the USB port in the TV for this.
Unless I am missing something, it seems to be defined by Hoa & location of condo.
I can look into other options over time.

I am in the same situation having my patio facing West at my condo. I use this antenna Amazon.com: Antennas Direct C2-V-CJM ClearStream 2-V Long Range UHF/VHF Indoor/Outdoor DTV Antenna with 20-Inch Mount: Electronics Then I constructed a simple folded dipole for channel three and attached it to a support beam on my patio roof. Here is a guide on how to build one. A cheap and easy TV antenna I used this UVSJ Amazon.com: CHANNEL PLUS 2512 DC + IR Passing 2-Way Splitter/Combiner: Electronics to combine the signal from both antennas. I get all the local channels at 100% signal strength using this setup without having to resort to a roof or attic mount setup. An indoor antenna worked well for me except channel three had reception issues and was not receivable at all on overcast days.

Wow. I am impressed at the length to go ota! I like to do these things because just going w/the flow is so wasteful these days.
I'm not a techie & disabled but getting fed up w/Internet TV & cell phone costs!

I know there is more that I can do. Never thought about constructing something to change the direction. Unless it happens to be your hobby or profession, it's hard to not do things like the "norm". And getting worse, I am in my fifties & can't imagine how the younger "kids" will afford all this in light of the job market.

Thanks for those links. I will first get an inexpensive HDTV Since I was going to have to pay $56 for Internet, I signed up for
The economy tv package on a 12 mo promo
Deal. Then I will determine exactly what I need. I plan to go ota & I'm sure you can so it In a condo. It's just more work .....
Last night I got a young gal @ cox & she waived the installation fee. Think she was amazed that I was decreasing service in advance of a financial problem Very considerate of her. Too bad they really don't care that people are just being forced to looking @ alternatives, but they don't.

It sounds like every which way folks have tried to get good reliable internet and TV service, it just doesn't happen. I am surprised that the service is so poor. My wife and I just purchased a condo in Henderson and have been trying to figure out the best way to get internet and TV (we already have phones) when we are only there a couple times a year for a week or two. If the experiences on this site are the usual ones, I guess we are in for a tough time. Anyone use the Antenna Man? My thinking is if that could work for some local TV channels, then we are only have to contend with figuring out the best way to get internet. Would invite any suggestions you may have....
