i worked for MGM Mirage Coporate for 3 yrs, as a computer geek. i still keep in contact with some of my ex-co-workers. i'm sure if i wanted back in, they could make it happen for me. but i really really don't want that headache again. the job i have now is more fulfilling than casino work.

there are a few things i miss....some of the employee dining rooms & the people watching.

things i don't miss...your personal life means nothing to them, your value as a person means nothing to them, even tho i may be the best computer geek they have doesn't mean i will receive a raise (no one in IT gets a raise, unless you're mgmt).

for me it wasn't that hard. i knew NO ONE when i applied/got hired. even had an out of state address i can tell you today it's easier than it was in say...2008. right as i left them, they had announced layoffs & then mgmt got the bright idea to outsource 95% of IT. only within the last year have they decided to bring the jobs back. i'm not sure if they are hiring ALL of the original staff back, or just their golden children.

doesn't hurt to try. it also depends on what your speciality is

Is this juice basically a LV thing? In my travels I've never come across it except in LV. At least to the level of LV.

Yeah. They laid off most of their IT staff and outsourced it to Xerox. There was a glut of IT people looking for work when that happened. I'm sure many of them landed at Xerox and are now back at MGM as subcontractors, only with worse pay and benefits.

nlvgal, it's my understanding mgm has dropped their contract with xerox. mgm was hiring back some of the IT folk that had left, not a subcontractors but as full fledge employees again.

That's because there are many jobs in Las Vegas which don't require any skills (other than a pleasant disposition) and pay very well. A valet, doorman or cocktail waitress can realistically pull down a six figure income with nothing more than a high school diploma.

So yes, juice is necessary for such positions. It's more hush-hush these days. But according to people I know who are in these positions, juice is still a fact of life in Las Vegas.
