Was looking at spots at Mt. Charleston or Lake Mead but the only info I can really find is the National Parks Service stuff which is all shut down. Anyone have any ideas? I've been wanting to camp the last 2 months and of course the few days I schedule off are the days the government takes a break. Lovely. Anyway it would be just me and I can hike if necessary. Thanks in advance.

Just to clarify for those that don't know...

The government shutdown closed all National parks unfortunately.

i never understood why it required an operating federal government to enjoy public land in our country.

If anything, there's nobody to mess with people who head to public land. Just don't use the main gate and be a thoughtful camper. Make the shutdown work for YOU! No fees until the obstructionist party quits acting like petulant children.

unless they closed the national parks and kept a ranger or two to arrest trespassers.

As far as I know, they're ALL furloughed. If I'm wrong, correct me quick. I don't want to send any hikers off into legal trouble.
