I know.. She'll find something, though. As was stated, there are better paying jobs here, it's just a matter of finding them. I am very thankful to be working in my home office with New England income. Best of both worlds.

Anyone with accounting experience working for $10 hr needs to learn to market themselves. Every small business needs accounting work done, some just don't know it and need to be educated. Get to know your local business attorneys and auditors. That's where a lot of the work is going to come from. These days I wont even talk to anyone unless they were referred from someone I'm already working with.

I think there's a need out there somewhere between setting up quickbooks/data entry and small reporting company. Ive met a lot of freelance guys/gals out there who were terrible. Unfortunately I've even hired a few that were so bad that I had to catch their mistakes (I only know enough about GAAP to be dangerous).

I pay $65-$75 an hour for accounting work. My guy makes enough off me alone to survive but he of course has other clients. He's really only busy with me during quarterly filings and the annual audit. I've also gotten him several other jobs.

Auditing? Now there's a good paying job!

A GOOD accountant is always in demand.

Edit to add: If I were an accountant I'd concentrate on the small PubCo market (OTCBB/pinks) and be the facilitator between the company and the auditor.

Austin is an up an coming area, very nice in fact, may I ask where did you finally relocate to?
Phoenix. Three weeks from today. Just secured the cutest apartment with a fenced in yard and doggie door, and am starting to get calls regarding my resume. I'll be getting out of here just in the nick of time with winter approaching fast!

ElleTea - good luck to you!

I have decided I am going to just take the plunge and see where it lands me. Thanks for the advice and info from everyone on this thread. Id figure it would be tough at first and who knows when Vegas is going to bounce back but Id figure for a town like Las Vegas it can't get any worst then it already is. Keeping my fingers crossed.

My husband and I are moving to Las Vegas next month from Memphis, TN. We are here this week apartment hunting and found a place we both liked called Oasis Vinings (zip 89108). I have a BA in accounting and MSA (Masters in Accounting information systems) I will be looking for a job here very soon. Would it be best to seek employement through a recruiter or job pages such as indeed? My experience is 20+ years and about 6 different industries. Any advice would be welcomed.
