I hope so. My cat's kind of a wimp but I think she take a scorpion

We've only been here a few months, but haven't seen creepy crawlies either. Hoping that trend continues
Man, that's good news. Sitting outside with the grill is one of the things I am really looking forward to.

Thanks,

Default Bark Scorpions. How do I get rid of them?

One really good thing is to get rid of potential hiding places. no junk sitting around. No lumber piles or such.

Remeber Phoenix survives. And they are infested with the little dears.
Please do not perpetuate the fallacy that Phoenix is "infested" with scorpions. Like Vegas, there are areas where they are a problem, and countless more areas where people have lived for decades and never seen one. I've lived in four different areas over the last 50 plus years and have seen ONE at home. And it was nearly dead.

I stand corrected.

The official name of the creature however is "Arizona Bark Scorpion"

Did anyone watch "Flippin Las Vegas" last week? The guy with the goofy looking Porche had a house in the desert out near Lake Las Vegas that was infested with scorpions. He had some company come out with big scorpion vinyl overlays on their trucks and they took care of the problem toot sweet! Can't remember the name of the company.

Of course he also fixed a pretty decent size roof leak by sending a guy up into the attic with a caulking gun

In the 8 years we have been in our house, i have counted at least 80 by now, most have been outside.

I was stung by one in the kitchen last year on my foot and was lucky enough to not have a bad reaction but my foot did tingle all night and the next day i couldnt walk on it.

We use the bug bully also but scorpions are hard to get rid of. All of my neighbors have pest control service and they all have scorpions. Dont walk around the house barefoot, be observant and you wont have a problem.
Dont leave shoes or clothes laying on the floor and dont leave beds un-made all day. If using the restroom in the middle of the night, turn the light on and look around. Our neighbor was stung on the finger last week, she was flushing the toilet and he was sitting on the handle waiting for her.:d
thud.

Hollywood perpetuated the idea that there are scorpions all over the desert, just like they do with rattlesnakes; and now the internet is keeping the lie alive. If you saw two scorpions in your house those are probably the last two you will ever see. In 50 years in Nevada I think I can count the number of scorpions I've seen on one hand. Unless you are very allergic to them and can't get to treatment, it's highly doubtful they'll kill you unless you fall into a nest and get multiple bites from many different ones. But don't hold your breath for that to happen. I do realize the sting is very painful, but it won't disable you for life or anything.

BTW: Don't waste time on looking for brown recluse spiders here in southern Nevada. You might find a relative of the brown recluse, or if Bubba just came to visit from the south he may have brought one in his luggage; but the brown recluse just doesn't live here. And the relatives just aren't nearly as poisonous and they avoid humans as much as possible.

I don't think I ever saw a scorpion of any kind in New Mexico, but in Texas, where creepy crawlies seem to have sprung out of the earth from, I saw more scorpions and snakes in less than three years than in all my years in Nevada.

I hate to give this away for fear it will start another Nevada land rush, but if you're coming anyway, stop worrying about those Hollywood stereotypes.

YOu can get an infestation. It is rare but it does happen. In a house in Summerlin which I was having inspected we easily found 30 to 40 bark scorpions without really trying. Our suspicion is that they had established residence somewhere in the structure of the house. Bagging that house was probably required.

I also saw a home in NLV - just off La Camino Norte that had dozens in the backyard. That buyer simply got a black light and assassinated them over a couple of weeks.

Where there is actually a nest they can be present in substantial volume. Then the biggest thing to do is get rid of all the places to hide.
