I'm sure 40% is the single highest contributing department. So it will still have precedence over the rest of them.

Exactly, they could hardly shut down all the slots and table gaming and still amass record profits. While shows, concerts and shopping enhance the Las Vegas experience, the real money is in the machines and baccarat tables.

I think we're getting down to GL entries at this point. Gaming is also broken down into segments (pai-gow, penny slots, BJ, poker etc.), as is food, beverage, rooms, and club revenue. Gaming is still a money-maker, and the casinos would crumble without it. That said, the focus is shifting. It had to. Gaming is legal in what, 48 states now?

Even New York has legal gaming now, from what I've read.

Yeah, you guys said GAMING versus NON-GAMING....that's the breakdown... now you want to go into slots versus restaurants, Pai Gow versus Nightclubs?

So why are the Freebee attractions slowly shutting down? To make room for a bigger better Freebee attraction? Lol

They don't pay international DJs 6-7 figures for one night just because.

You have a point.

It comes down to appealing to two different generations; The baby boomers and my generation(I'm 33). There are things that do not appeal to the baby boomers like spending $20k on a cabana at the pool, spending $10k on a mixed drink or even dropping high 4 figures to sit in VIP next to Kim Kardashian. And then there are things that do not appeal to the younger generation like shows, comedy acts, table games, video poker, high limit rooms and a live pirate show. Some of the stuff that the younger generation will blow their money on I find ridiculous but it is their money so... You are right about gambling still being a big deal here in town but that is until the last baby boomer dies off, then what? Just look at how easy it is for the younger generation to blow $$$.

I'm sure the boomers are not contributing to this...

Las Vegas Strip nightclubs dominate list of top revenue-producing bars in nation - Las Vegas Sun News

Nightclub & Bar said the entire group of 100 venues brought in $1.4 billion
last year, a 9.2 percent increase from the prior year. As a whole, the bar and
nightclub industry saw a 1 percent growth in revenue in 2011, the group said.
Boomers like to lounge in the pool but I bet they don't want anything to do with this.

Pool party trend paying off big for Las Vegas resorts - VEGAS INC
Quote:

Just to walk in the door at Rehab will cost you more than $100 on a busy
weekend. Let me repeat that: $100 just to walk in the door. A place to sit?
That’s going to cost you extra. A bottle of booze will run you hundreds more and
somewhere to put that bottle, a cabana perhaps, costs thousands more. It’s easy
to see why these pool parties are the new revenue darlings of casino
operators.

Kohoutek remembers the days when pool parties first came on the scene and you could rent a cabana for $300. Now, everything has a food and beverage minimum, he says. Hard Rock’s Rehab requires its VIP cabana patrons to spend between $1,000 and $20,000 in food and beverage minimums.

Darn, I left before she got there! With her track record with men I figured I could be her latest mistake!

And she's getting $310K per night. The venue is obviously not paying her that unless they are banking on making an amount exponential to that.

Damn! I'd treat her right too!

They might have to prop her up for her shows though...no dancing for sure!

I'm sure the clubs make money. But I really doubt and casino is making more on clubs than gaming. And don't think there isn't any symbiosis here. A lot of people come out of the clubs drunk and hit the machines and tables. The casinos companies want the resorts to be fully encompassing. They don't want the customers to ever have to leave. Casinos have had nightclubs and bars since they've existed. This isn't new. They've just figured out how to make more money off of them.

If they didn't make money on the clubs, but the clubs kept the casinos full, they'd still pay the DJs big money to spin.

Also, as far as the freebee's go, most of them are still there. I suspect you're harping on the pruning down of the TI pirate show. The're not getting rid of it, but repurposing some space that wasn't really critical to it (the parking lot for the pirate ship when it was not "in frame" for the show.) The show will go on (and they'll add a some retail space also.)

BTW, last time I went to the pirate show (maybe a year and half ago), it was so packed my GF was getting panicky about the crowd. I bet it still drives a lot of traffic to TI.
