As noted, traffic is not much of an issue. Even at the worst, LV traffic is not bad at all (this is coming from someone who suffered through California city traffic for years). Yeah, The Strip can get congested - but everybody learns to use the streets paralleling it pretty fast.

Fashion Show Mall, eh? That's great. It's more of a regular mall than many of the others on The Strip. My wife and I go there regularly when we are in LV.

I'm from Chicago. There are bad neighborhoods here but not as bad as the west side or Englewood. I would suggest west of the strip. Go a couple of miles and start looking and then you have a nicer area and getting to the strip is a breeze.

We are looking for something on Las Vegas blvd or as close to the strip as possible (like i said we are city people and like the action) Can anyone suggest areas or complexes that aren't ridiculously expensive or in the ghetto? preferably around $900 is our price range. Thank you in advance

Las Vegas is not like eastern (or Midwestern) big cities. You'll find it is so easy to get around (if you drive) that you'll be much more comfortable in a nice neighborhood in a nice modern house than you would in either downtown or the Strip. Rent until you get to know your way around town and then make up your mind. But rent at least five miles west of the Strip, and don't live anywhere near downtown. Getting to the Strip is easy from all areas of town, and parking is abundant and free.

I am from NYC (Staten Island) and worked in Manhattan and all the boroughs for 3 years when I was a field engineer and I know traffic, noise and bad neighborhoods. Now I live in Southwest Las Vegas in Mountains Edge community and it takes me about 20 minutes to go to the strip. When I come home I feel like I live in eastern Long Island where it is peaceful and quiet.

As others have said if you live on Las Vegas Blvd or closer to the strip it will be in a very bad neighborhood where the crime and violence is unbearable. You can rent a house for about $1,100 to $1,300 a month even in my area. Summerlin is directly west of the strip where you find a lot of rentals houses for less money, but you will have mostly communities with over 50% rented properties and that comes with it’s own issues where the properties have very small driveways so the cars are on the street, very small back yards and typically renters do not care about the community. Also keep in mind that we do have the Duce bus service that runs all the time and is very cheap.

Good luck
