For those of you who are Chicago Italian Beef fans. Al's #1 opens Jan 13 2014 on Sahara and Rainbow, according to the sign on the door.

Windy City Beefs and Dogs has excellent Italian Beefs for anyone who is interested and the service is great.

That location has a horrible street sign and is almost hidden between two other buildings and trees. The first time around I couldn't find the damn place. Food was pretty good but perhaps with more and more people looking for healthier options perhaps this would be the end result for such places.

My favorite part of the article...
"Franchising began in 2001, expanding from their original Taylor Street location to 11 Illinois branches and out to Dallas, Alhambra, California, and Dubai. The Texas and California ventures have now also shuttered." They're only operating out of the Chicago area and Dubai?

IMO Vegas needs a Portillo's.

Confirmed that the Al's in TX is closed. I didn't like their beef much, nor Pepsi. There was an Al's in Chino, CA as well.

We like Windy City Beef and Pizza at Eastern and Silverado Ranch. We have also been Hot Dog Heaven in Henderson way out Boulder Hwy, which is is small with outside seating which is reminiscent of the walk-up hot dog places in Chicago.

Love Windy City Dogs when I need a fix. Actually, I enjoy the beefs at Windy City better than Al's on Sahara. Can't believe Giordano's is opening up in a casino instead of a stand alone store.

We've tried the Beefs/Combos/Chicago Dogs at Al's, Chicago Dogs (on Rancho), Windy City, and Hot Dog Heaven and I thought Al's overall was the best. I thought the gravy at Windy City wasn't very good. Chicago Dogs would be better if their sweet peppers were similar to Al's. It sucks that Al's is closing but I agree with many of the Yelp reviews-- the service wasn't that good and I had been there quite a few times.

I agree though, a Portillo's would be great.

I'm in the NW suburbs of Chicago (for now) and there is a Portillo's right down the road. That place is a gold mine. The food is very good evidenced by the line of cars at the drive-thru at any given time. On Friday night there could be 25-30 cars in line and the inside restaurant is packed. I would love to see one out there.

Windy City sounds good. I'll have to give that a try next time we're in town.
