Hi everyone,

I have a section 8 voucher and considering moving to Las Vegas for a part time job. Just wondering how difficult or easy it is to use a section 8 voucher in Las Vegas as far as decent landlord in a good neighborhood taking them. Does anyone know of any buildings that are safe and quiet that take section 8 or landlords? Thanks!

Moving from where? Out of town? I could be wrong, but I think the vouchers are only valid in the county in which you live. A lot of landlords list properties on gosection8.com. There is no specific area where vouchers are accepted -- just depends on if the owner accepts them.

Vouchers are portable. Use anywhere Section 8 is avaiable.

Section 8 housing is widely available with all the standard prejudices against them being in play.

The mortgage crisis and the accompanying mass buy-ups by investors has resulted in Las Vegas being a "mecca" for Section 8 rentals.

You can take a Section 8 voucher anywhere in the U.S. once you get one. That's called "portability". You just have to register or "port in" with the County housing agency you're re-locating to.

Yes. She has to find a rental unit that will take Section 8 and then "port in" to the housing authority in Clark County. Sometimes the owner of the unit (Waypoint Housing, for example) will take care of the voucher issue with the county on your behalf.

No... She would be able to port out after a year.
