What if it's fear? Americans have a lot of real fear and false fears to deal with. The economy is teetering on the edge. It could boom or bust at any minute. Then we have the 24 hour news media feeding us hyped up stories, misinformation, and a constant stream of fear mongering. Is all of this colluding into a climate of increased violence or is it a fluke? Historically, violence is down but our awareness of the remaining violence is at an all time high.

ucr's for the whole state of nevada, from 1994 - 2012. the pdf's take a long time to load, so do be patient (the 2012 one is almost 300 pages!). this breaks it down into categores like murder, burglary, etc etc

There were 152 murders in Las Vegas in 2006. This year's 115 body count brings us back to pre-2009 levels (click here).

In 2011 Los Angeles had nearly 3 times more murders, but per-capita we are almost identical to their rate the last few years. (click here for Los Angeles stats)
