Yeah I was just making sure I wasnt missing anything. Very informative stuff in this thread. Plan on going as far as Ruby Mountains and Ely,via through Great Basin and Elko. From Ruby, all the way to Reno/Carson City, then back towards central nevada, hit Toiyabe NF/Tonopah, and drive back home. The map I put up showed the direction I was looking to take

Books yall recommended will be in the mail next week. Ill narrow everything down from there.

If you find yourself in Elko, don't miss eating at the Star. It's an easy walk from the casinos. The food is amazing, served family style for the sides. All you order is your entree. It's a Basque restaurant.

There is a large Basque population in the area. They were mostly sheep herders. If you hang out at some of the older bars you can still hear Basque spoken there. Sort of a mix of French and Spanish. Also many of the bars have real Calvados and it's delicious.

If you can ever get to Elko in January, check out the Cowboy Poetry Festival! Attended by people from all over the world and the music is worth hearing as is the poetry.

There's nothing in ELY. It's a tiny town.
On the way to Ely there are some attractions. There's so much within a couple hours of Las Vegas it's insane.

Dry lake bed in Pahrump

Cathedral Canyon between Vegas and Ely.

My Charleston

Nelson

Just upstream from Lake Mead where the wash enters

Near Ely

Valley of Fire

For the record, the place with the old buses and buildings is actually Eldorado Canyon (I spelled it right, I promise), about a mile down the road from Nelson. Nelson is mostly some old mobile homes and dusty streets. Eldorado Canyon is the place with the awesome old abandoned buildings and mine/river tours - Colorado River Tours

We used them as a filming location in January for a movie, super nice people, highly recommend! It's a big tourist/photo location destination.
