My daughter and I will be moving to Vegas in July of 08. She will be entering the 5th grade in Nevada. She is really into performing arts mainly singing, dancing and acting. She's currently at the top of her 4th grade class in Ohio and the teacher and I have even spoken about having her put up to the 5th grade. Does anyone know about the performing arts schools in Vegas? I want her to be able to pursue the arts but NOT at the expense of the basics reading, writing and... lol you know the rest.

I know the Las Vegas Academy is a performing arts high school. I'm sure there is a magnet program one or more middle schools that focuses on the performing arts. I've read differing opinions on the effectiveness of magnet schools, but it's worth looking into. In the 4th grade, however, you'll probably be best served by taking her to dance class at a private academy after school.

Good luck!

Thanks for the info. Dance classes are a definite lol I don't think my daughter would know what to do with herself if there was no dance classes or upcoming performances to practice for!! You never know what the future holds I will look into the Las Vegas Academy when the time comes.

I would strongly caution you against moving her up to 5th grade. There is a trade off for having academically gifted children. While they may be advanced academically, a lot of times they tend to be less mature emotionally than their peers.

On the performing arts school subject, I have a friend whose daughter attends the Las Vegas performing arts high school and she loves it. The productions they put on rival anything on the strip and maybe even broadway for that matter.

There is one performing arts school in Las Vegas, K.O Knudson Middle School.
You can go to K. O. Knudson (http://ccsd.net/schools/knudson - broken link) K. O. Knudson . I Went to this school all three years for Technical Theater. The Majors At K.O Are: French, Spanish, Dance, Band, Mariachi, orchestra, Vocal, Jazz, Theater, Tech Theater, Broadcast Journalisam, and art. I was acually the mascot there also. You're Child would have to get in by her grades if you would the magnet program, zone students have to attend. But since its a zone school there are students there who have less of a chance to succeed for the way they act. Bully System there is very inforced on the students. You can get all the information at the Wedsite,

If you would want you could e-mail me at Jonashana@aol.com on more information
But you should get most of it at the wedsite

Best of luck for your child

There are no programs at her age level in the schools, except for the required music classes. I would suggest she get with a good vocal teacher that understands the young voice,I have many students her age and also many students from the Magnet Schools, K.O. Knudson and Las Vegas Academy. Please feel free to go to my website: www.undonedivas.com
There is a children's professional chorsu. I could arrange an audition after I heard her.

Uhhhh. Did you read the beginning of this old thread that you found?

Las Vegas Academy is the original Las Vegas High School where all the local movers and shakers went to school.
