In the summer of 2014, my wife and I might go to Vegas after watching the movie "Last Vegas." However, is it worth it. If I move to the northeast, I will be close to NYC. According to threads I read on the city vs city forum, Vegas gets crushed by NYC's nightlife, food, bars, and NYC has really good casinos also such as Empire city Casino. Is Vegas worth for 7 days, or should I drive to NY for the weekend if I move to the northeast?

Haha, really good casinos? They have slot barns like Empire City, no real tables there or at Yonkers. If you like tables you'll have to drive 90 minutes or more to a "real" casino and the casinos still won't be anything like Vegas.

OC,

Do you want to vacation in Vegas, or move there. If your in OC, take a few days and drive out to Vegas. I don't know what the issue is.

While NY and LV have some similarities, they have vast differences. If you want to gamble, forget about NY, and go straight Vegas. Also, I would say Vegas is a better hard core party destination, although you can very much party hard in NY. For food, NY is better. While Vegas has a lot of top tier restaurants, they're usually outposts of restaurants and chefs from other cities, a main one being NYC.

There are seasonal issues here. The Vegas casions have a huge pool scene in the summer (summer in Vegas running from late March through late November.) Theres also lots of national parky type places within driving distance. On the flip side NYC and the surrounding areas have real, and very nice beaches.

And Vegas is sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much cheaper. For the cost of 1 night in NYC, you could stay 3 (almost) here. Would the Waldorf even compare to the bellagio? June 12-15. 2 beds. 400sf room. Waldorf 472. Per night (upgraded room to get to 400sf). Standard is 250sf for around 375. Plus 60 per day to park...ouch. Total..1596. Bellagio smallest room 500sf.... $617 + $84 resort fee..god forbid... = 701.00 minus 75 dollar food credit... $626.

I think Mandalay bays rooms are even bigger than the Waldorf.

Oh, yeah, that too. I live in NYC, so I don't pay for hotels here.

If you are moving to the Northeast and will be close to NYC, then you can go there any time. No big deal.

But if you are in the OC you are not that far away from here. And if you are leaving the west coast and won't be back at all or at least for a very long time, then it's a good idea to stop over in Vegas on your way out.

After all, most everybody wants to have a Las Vegas vacation at least once in their lifetime.

Much fun, good times and good luck to you with the move

Another yes. I was born and went to college in NYC. It is a fascinating and interesting place.

It is not Las Vegas. Not even close.

There are ultimate foodies who might find excellence in NYC. For the vast majority of us it is overly expensive and not that good.

Manhattan is not the strip and no area of Manhattan approaches it. Overall Manhattan eats Vegas alive...but the strip takes any single area of NY.

And the beaches of NYC are wonderful...far better than anywhere on the west coast. But that comes no where near the ongoing show of the strip.

Ask the 40 million people that come here every year. Almost as many that go to NYC, but since we have more hotel rooms, where do visitors to NYC stay?

+ what everyone else said.
