When considering a one way trip I say just suck it up and plan by the weather. Myself I can't do those long drives anymore. The most I did was 19hrs straight and I was tired. I would stay south of the snow.

Taking I-70 through the rockies is tough on the vehicle. I've driven that stretch and it's pretty steep, and climbs very high (10k+, iirc).

If you take the southern route, watch your speed in northwest Arizona, after you get off the interstate. The closer you get to Bullhead City/Laughlin, the more likely you are to get snared in a speed trap. Also, through Searchlight the speed limit drops to 25mph - obey it.
Do you think it's better to take 95 than 93? I always take 93 from Kingman. Then you'll see the dam and the dam bridge.

I drove the southern route from South Hills of Pittsburgh to Las Vegas and it was a nice ride. However, try to avoid staying over in Gallup, NM. In October, awoke to ice on the car and bunch of drunks passed out along the curb. Hotel was expensive and lousy with train passing behind about every hour, rattling the bed and feeling like the Magic Fingers sprung to life on its own! Stop over in Laughlin... wonderful town... plan to retire in that area. Then moved to Florida and drove straight across I-10... easy drive once you get past the confusion between Vegas and Phoenix. My dogs were my co-pilots and although they were great at coming when called, sitting on command, and retrieving a Frisbee, both stunk at map reading. All they did was complain that giving me directions was just to "ruff!" But really, nice drive if you can take your time and stop and smell the cacti. Florida is pretty, but humid, buggy, and as much fun (SW FL) as tugging on a pair of support hose. Miss the liveliness of casino row and the DRY desert air. Enjoy!

I would suggest I-95 with a stop in Laughlin, NV. Nice casino/hotels, enjoy walking the boardwalk along the Colorado River, and have a nice buffet at the Ramada and relax after a long drive like that. Then start off fresh the next day for Vegas... about 1 1/2 hrs. drive through the desert. If you want a nice cup of coffee and breakfast, stop at the Nugget Casino restaurant in Searchlight, NV for a TEN CENT cup of coffee!!! (I even got the mug LOL!). And yes... watch out for the lowered speed in Searchlight or you'll have a souvenir ticket to go with the Nugget mug!
