I don't mean to hijack this, but did I read this correct? If you sue someone in justice court, they need to file an answer, which costs them 70 bucks.... to file an answer???

Yep. (Except for Small Claims, which is its own pseudo-court.) If you're sued in District Court, the cost of $223 to file an answer.

actually $223 for 8th judicial court.. $71 for las vegas justice court…

but lets say, you've received a complaint, it wasn't served correctly, so you have the affirmative defense, so you answer is to dismiss due to service…. the defendant is still out the $71??

crazy...

Who did you use? I need to find one too.

I did come across this site and made an inquiry with one firm:

Be sure you do it correctly. The first thing the judge will do is review if there was proper service. If the judge deems improper service they won't hear your case. This is why you hire a licensed process server vs your uncle.

Serving stuff is pretty simple. Or you can pay the constable $100 to do it.

Southern Nevada Process Service. Old friends of mine.

Yes, it is a very interesting way to make a living. I did it for 8 years in Las Vegas. (among other things). You better like meeting all kinds of people or you'll never cut it!
