Other Space, Sin City Saints: Yahoo Orders Two Scripted TV Shows | canceled + renewed TV shows | TV Series Finale

Going into production soon. Funded by Yahoo and has some reputable names behind it.

If only it were a real NBA team coming here, and not a fictional one... but I'll take it.

If the NBA decided to yank the Clippers from Los Angeles and give them to us (with, say, Sheldon Adelson as the owner -- no real difference that way), I'll bet the first game-fixing charge against a player would happen during the first season.

I can only hope Las Vegas gets to deal with scandals like that... a small price to pay for putting us on the map. There will obviously be kinks with bringing a professiona team here, but they'll get ironed out over time.

If Mayweather buys the Clippers, moving them to Las Vegas is a small possibility, but not likely.

My point being that once we have our first game-fixing charge under our belts*, that's that for pro sports in Las Vegas. MLB doesn't care about drugs, but they are rabidly against gambling. The NFL doesn't care about felonies, and they at least recognize that sports betting is a big reason for their success. They even throw London a bone every year, and there's practically a book maker on every corner. But I'd be stunned if the NFL tossed Las Vegas a franchise. Stunned.

I'd say the NBA is our best bet. And even if it happened, it wouldn't last. Our reputation is so awful that as soon as any player or coach did ANYTHING questionable, they'd yank the team and send it to Kansas City.

* Seriously, I'll bet it would happen during the first month, especially with the NBA. I agree with the people who say the NBA draft lottery is fixed. And the NBA is easily the least-ethical of the US professional sports franchises.

If an NBA team did move to Las Vegas I would be really surprised if a player, coach, GM or anyone else in the organization would attempt to "fix" a game. It wouldn't be worth it. What would be the payoff for fixing a game? $10,000? $25,000? $50,000? It wouldn't be worth it to get caught and then get banned.

If the owner of the Las Vegas team had an association with a casino the NBA would not allow bets to be taken on that team in that casino. Sure the owner or associates can go to other places but would it be worth it?

-Cheers.

Truth is, game fixing/point shaving has already taken place in the NBA without a single team being in Las Vegas... so having a team actually play here is not going to change this possibility in any way. You could say the same thing about other historically crooked sports like boxing, yet it thrives here. I really don't see the risk as anything new or to be worried about.

Of course boxing thrives here. It's historically crooked and doesn't really care about its image. As long as the checks don't bounce, they're happy with Las Vegas.

The NBA realizes they have an image problem and is unlikely to completely ruin their already tarnished reputation by allowing a franchise in Las Vegas.

a suitable stadium needs to be built in vegas.. nothing more

the issue isn't with match-fixing... lots of cities around the world host professional sports teams and allow betting, in-person and online

What's stopping it from happening now? Build a stadium for major sporting events and bring in different teams and the pro bowl. Just give the NFL, MLB, NHL, Etc. Their cut.

If any of the leagues decided to throw Las Vegas a franchise, wealthy investors would trip over themselves to put up the necessary cash to buy it. (They'd make the city front the cost of the stadium, which I think is ridiculous. But that's what they'd do because it's S.O.P. in other cities.)

The main problem is that none of the leagues want anything to do with us.
