We recently moved into an 1800+ square ft house. I love to cook and bake and the kitchen is a good size. The oven is built in and the stove top is separate. I was shocked a few weeks ago when I loaded up a pan of cookies and open the oven to put the pan in and it was not even close to fitting!! I had no idea that ovens come in different sizes. It never even crossed my mind that it could be an issue. I have lived all over the country in large and small houses and apartments and even very old houses. Not once did I come across this problem. Almost none of my pans fit. I had to get out my small pans and transfer them and do it in 2 batches. I don't understand why someone would put a small oven in a family home. There was plenty enough room for a normal size oven, but now since it is built in we would have to knock out a side of the cabinets to put in a different oven and it would be sticking out from the rest.

Anyone else come across this? The house was built in 1988.

You may not like my explanation but Las Vegas is a different animal. People who live here tend to not cook as much because food is so plentiful and(cheap) free. My Uncle lived here forever and he seldom had more than water in his fridge. Eating out is a bargain here. Also, nothing heats up a house faster than running the oven. Since we pay so much to keep our homes cool, people probably use ovens less here than in other places.

Sounds like the oven is a built in. Depending on the size of the cabinet, you may be able to replace it.

I have a full size oven, but it makes the house too hot so I bought a portable oven. Maybe you could supplement your oven space with one ? There is no oven on the bottom of your stove?

Most of the times that I've seen the little built- in oven, they were supplemental units

Not in Las Vegas but in a duplex I rented for a few years. The stove was an apartment sized stove with an apartment sized oven to go with it. I loved that little stove, worked great, the oven was perfect just smaller than I was used to.

I have never heard of people not cooking here. I have lived here over 10 years in houses and apartments and cook just as much as I did when I lived elsewhere. We eat out a lot too, but I don't think food is really any cheaper here than anywhere else except for some local buffets. I don't gamble, so no one is giving me free food.

1) If you gamble, nobody is giving you free food, either. In fact, it usually ends up being more expensive.

2) I agree with the others. Las Vegas is a magnet for people who don't want to cook. Food can be had for next to nothing in this town, if the diner has low expectations.

It is very likely that the oven in your new house was previously only used for reheating leftovers from restaurants -- and only then when the microwave couldn't do the job.

I look at a LOT of property in this town. Often, the ovens are spotless -- because they are never used.
