I recently returned from 10 days in LV. It was fun to get out of rainy Texas. I understand buffet prices had to rise yet paying $25 for lunch is no bargain..

Worse was the Monorail which for the $12 day pass doesn't even get you downtown. For that they expect an $8 RT Bus ticket. If you're a local your fares are much different - this is a slap in the face.
IN NYC I believe you can go anywhere on the Subway for $5 a day.

I stlll like Vegas but its no bargain and no one likes to feel singled out for higher fares.

The Strip is always high to eat, even for crappy buffet food. You have to venture away from the madness (off strip)and go to a regular restaurant, where food prices are normal. That $8 bus ticket was probably good for 2 days unlimited riding. I know I can get a $5 bus pass good for 2 days being a local.
"Soaking the tourists" is part of the game of the Strip.

Next time try staying down on Fremont street. Hotel prices are much better, and you can get a lot of cheap food down there and not get "soaked" unless it rains on you while you are out there.

Rent a car. Usually around $200 or less for a week and see other parts of Las Vegas. Many bargains away from the strip. I hate paying $9 for a Bud Light at one of the showrooms too, but it is what it is. In Chicago I recently paid $55 to park for 6 hours, so it all evens out.

If you go a couple of blocks off the Strip prices are more reasonable.

We go once a year for a few days and take our car, because there's so much more to LV than the Strip. Last year we visited Container Park downtown and had possibly the best barbeque of our lives at Big Ern's.

Who needs casinos when there's the National Atomic Testing Museum? Get outta town, go see Hoover Dam and the Mike O’Callaghan-Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge, the highest concrete-arch bridge in the world.

This. I always rent when in Vegas. Much better food deals off the strip. Also it gets me out of the casinos during the day.

This is way wrong. They got rid of the daily unlimited Metrocard. The cheapest unlimited is weekly for $31. The normal fare is 2.75 each trip, but you do get transfers between subway lines, and subways and crossing bus lines.

Backin the 70's I lived in Vegas. Of course I had been to Hoover Dam and had found some very private parts of Lake Mead. I did go downtown because I've always liked Main Street Station Buffet.

I stayed at the Platinum because it was given to me free by an owner. Its a nice quiet place

My point was specific. The monorail does not get you downtown and they then nail you twice with the bus ( I walked) The bus is $6 just one way for Non residents.

Thanks to those who wanted to give me a Guide to Las Vegas however- Its a great place but the transportation options are neither convenient or cheap. Renting a car is a possibility but the traffic ni LV has become horrid.

Your post suggested a five dollar daily unlimited pass. Yes, if you buy a weekly, it can be a good deal if you're in NYC for a week and use it alot. But it's not a daily pass.

Locals also have to pay $25 for lunch buffet if they go to the strip or downtown. There is no discount on buffet just because you are "local". However, there are discount for player club members, which does not differentiate between locals and tourists. I get a "2 for 1" weekday buffet coupon in the mail from Station Casino a couple times a year. The coupon only can be used at certain Station casinos. Those lunch buffet price is much less than $25 even without coupons.
