Uber disables app, stops rideshares in wake of Nevada court ruling, reviewjournal.com/, November 27, 2014

"Their smartphone app for the service had quit working. Or, more accurately, it had been shut down by the company.

The maverick ride-sharing company that has been bending the state’s transportation rules for just over a month ceased operations in Nevada late Wednesday, vowing to return when it finds a clear path to operating legally in the state."

Taxi drivers are out celebrating now.

Based on that article Uber seems determined to put on a fight.

I'd think they were out driving or sleeping. That's all I did.

Our point exactly! So if you don't want local customers, let us have our Uber!

It's INSANE that we don't have Uber here. The cab authority in Las Vegas is a JOKE. I took Uber to McCerran weeks ago and paid $15. Uber had been shut down by the time I returned - my cab, same route, was $35.00 with no air conditioning + the driver refused to turn down the air / unlock the windows. I call the cab authority to complain and they ask that I file an investigation in which I will need to sign paperwork and identify a driver out of a line of drivers. Can you even imagine wasting your free time on something so absurd? Yes, it's $35 but no, I don't want to waste 3 to 4 hours of my life dealing with the insanity of the LV Cab Authority - it wouldn't be time or cost effective.

When I've had issues with Uber (in other cities) the corporate office is always happy to accommodate and speak directly to drivers.

Las Vegas needs to get their stuff together, this city seems so corrupt.

Nothing but bad luck and bad press for u ber lately. Lawsuit in San Francisco, their homebase? on driver background checks and no fingerprinting. Problems overseas and the rapist driver. In Vegas, the bad cab drivers go from company to company until they are virtually unhireable - and I'd bet dollars to doughnuts that many of these guys are now u ber drivers. Hmmmm.

The corruption would seem to be elsewhere as the taxi companies don't control the routes buses use. Or do they?

They go from company to company here…I'm assuming you're implying that each company hires, then realizes the driver's shortcomings, and then fires? Otherwise, I'm not sure that there is a valid argument that taxi's > Uber? If drivers have had complaints, I can tell you first hand that they'd be let go from Uber much more rapidly than the cab authority. This is confirmed by the request I received from the cab authority when attempting to file a complaint. The cab authority has absolutely no record of my complaint or issue because I refused to file an investigation (reasoning explained in previous comment).

If you're implying that Uber does not complete thorough background checks, or their drivers are not trustable - well maybe you should Google issues with Taxi companies worldwide? There is not an international, or even national, cab company that operates with the exposure and publicity that Uber does. I'm sure there are many, many issues with cab drivers here in Las Vegas…or do they all go unreported?

Uber is not a flaw-free system, but it is much, much more progressive than the LV cab authority.
