Hey,

I am interested in switching to Cox from Clear and taking up the "Essential" package, which is $34.99/mo for the 1st 6 months, and then $47.99 per month the rest of the way.

It is 5 mbps, which is significantly better than the 1.5 mbps I'm getting with Clear for $34.99/mo. (Please don't ask how I'm able to live with this bad of a connection, can't really afford it like a lot of you lol)

I plan on doing usual internet surfing, streaming videos, downloading, and gaming. Will this package be fine for my purposes?

Also, if you guys know of any better service that will be sufficient for my needs, please let me know! Of course I am not in a huge budget here. :P

Thank you very much!

PS: I have DirecTV, if that helps with any bundling.

I paid extra for the Cox Ultimate ($109). Well worth the extra $.

My video conferencing is buttery smooth with the 20+ Mbps upload speed. But, I work remotely for a New England company, and need this kind of connection.

My situation right now doesn't permit me to get that $109 plan. I would if I had the choice but just can't handle the price right now...

I have the cheap package you speak of. lol. It's ok.

Streaming videos are sometimes smooth but can take a while to load depending on which site you're watching it from (never had a problem with dailymotion). Downloading are a little slow but not enough for me to complain about. Then again I do download LOTS of files 1gig+ almost daily. Speed also depends on the time of day you download. A lot of times I get faster speed in the morning. I haven't tried gaming yet at least on my 360 (waiting to get a TV next month) but 5mbps should be enough for that as long as you don't run a lot of downloads while playing. I've had a variety of internet packages throughout the years ranging from 128kbs to 25mbs, and gamed on each one except this current package. 1mbs I only had minimum lag which also depends on if my opponent internet was as crappy as mine.

I say, if you did all of what you mentioned on 1.5, you'll be fine with this.

I don't do all I mentioned on 1.5 mbps. It's pretty crappy internet so that's why I was interested in the 5 mbps.

I know I should upgrade to something better but can't afford it at this point.
