Seems like an impulsive relocation decision. It appears you are running away with very little planning and money. This State has a much different political environment than your home State RE: public assistance should you need it. Think about it, What are you going to do the moment you arrive in town ? Where will you go for shelter ? What will you eat ? These are serious questions and $1200 will last you a couple of weeks. Then What ?

Not as exciting as Las Vegas but lots more opportunities if you are willing to work hard. Get some money ahead like people have advised you and then make the move to Vegas.

North Dakota Oil and Gas Jobs

Good article although a little dated.

You really get raped by inflation and taxes here, lol.

So while I don't have a job lined up RIGHT now I do see online there's a LOT of entry level places hiring like crazy and I do have a couple professional connects in Vegas, including the founder of a successful start up. She's working with the Zappos guy to revitalize the Vegas work scene. That being said, I've got the money for a month of rent + basic expenses and don't have a car so I'd like to know which neighborhoods, intersections I should be looking at apartments at. I don't want to spend more than low $700's on rent, preferably with no security deposit/low move in fee specials. Craigslist has a lot of sketchy postings, and I found out Camden charges out the ass with non refundable application fees of $350 - and then you gotta pay more if you are accepted.

I'm looking to move on the fly because I'm not gonna have anyone to stay with after this week in Chicago, and moving out to an affordable city on a whim is a helluva lot better than being in a homeless shelter. NOT going that route again.

Would appreciate if you keep us posted on how things work out for you. Good Luck!

It sounds like your options are to be homeless in Chicago or homeless in Las Vegas. Bear in mind, it is about to jump to steady 105-120 temps every single day, depending on what part of the valley you're in. You need to prepare yourself to be outside in those temperatures.

You're worried about crime, but for what you can afford, you're going to be smack dab in the middle of the highest crime areas here.

Just a friendly heads up..

There's a few apartments under $500 behind the Stratosphere right next to each other. You can always move if you don't like it once you get your money right.

Vegas is full of people like you. Hey, I am movin' to Vegas baby, and gettin' me a job in the cazinos, yep sir.

Ifcourse, the same goes on in NYC, LA, Miami, Hawaii, etc.

Same story. No jobs, no apt, no dough, end up homeless, drunk, drugged out, pimped out... same old story.

BTW, forget Atlantic City as Hilton, Revel, Showboat are gone baby.

You guys sure are negative, the post above me sounds like he went through some ****. OP go straight to vegas and don't worry about anything until you have to. If your determined not to fall like a bum then you won't, and if you can survive Chicago Aka Chiraq then you can sure survive Vegas. Start looking for a job right now, and be prepared to do any job you can get. And a fellow Chicagoan is always here if you get down on your luck.

Haha thanks man - my update is that I've got some places, like sublets/rental houses that are pretty affordable. I can live with just 2 other people being in the entire house, lol so Vegas is now a Plan B should everything fall through here in the Chi. I agree, lots of negativity, which is somewhat logical granted a LOT of people simply don't make it when moving the way I was considering, but yea Chicago is no city for the faint of heart with no support. A huge part of my pride especially in being a Chicagoan is pushing me to make it out on top here, taming the adversity.
