If you're going to complain, make sure it's anonymous. (And make sure the slob in question cannot deduce that it's you making the complaint.)

They won't lift a finger to do yardwork. But they'll gladly figure out new and interesting ways to mess your life up. It's just the nature of this city.

Just "HOA" isn't what does it. It's not the bylaws either. I once thought it was. Now I realize it's how the bylaws are honored and how moral, honorable and ethical the board members are. Going to those HOA board meetings and being friends with good people on a is an eye opener. I realize at the same time, others in a community with a circumspect board can be happy and oblivious. Not that all are bad by any means. Just that one can't always tell. So they can't all be lumped together as HOA is a good thing.

It really doesn't matter that you are renting...you are still a legitimate paying resident of the neighborhood.

If you don't want to get involved that is understandable but its also a big cause of neighborhood decline.

Sorry you have this issue...I know you've said how much you love your neighborhood.

I just highly doubt the property owner allowed that many people on the lease...had I had a neighbor who called me regarding my property here while I was in TX I would have sent friends over to investigate and if the situation was suspect I would have flown out and addressed it...no question.

Exactly. That is why I don't complain about the dude across the street with the pickup and lifted Jeep that are parked in guest parking around the clock. I've had a few conversations with him. He normally leads with how much of an arsenal he has in the house. Yep, go ahead and park wherever you'd like, sir.

Yep, just checked. Investment company out of California bought it in foreclosure. Not a bad deal. Paid $111K for it. Worth about $225K now..

Agree 100%

I've seen this firsthand in my neighborhood. 15 years ago there appeared to be very selective enforcement...the last 6 years or so they do regular drive throughs and base the write ups on that (plus homeowner complaints I'm sure)nothing ticked me off more than living next to retired people who complained about a minor spot on my drivewayonly to drive around the block and see window a/c units on the front of houses, disabled vehicles in driveways ect because none of their neighbors complained. I will totally play by the rules but everyone else darn well better be held accountable for their actions too.

The neighborhood looks quite nice now with the increased enforcement.
