Yup. The Internet is the medium that powers VOIP telephone. Why everyone with a computer doesn't have Vonage is beyond me. For $30 month (that includes the taxes) I get unlimited calling--anytime day or night, 24-7--throughout the US, Can., PR, Mexico, and several European countries.

Through my Vonage "dashboard," on the Vonage homepage, I can take advantage of a variety of features, most of which are included with the service: call waiting, caller ID, call forwarding, a voice mailbox, delivery of voice mails to my e-mail, and I forget what else. I use the option that enables my messages to go to my answering machine, so that I can screen my calls.

The add-ons are things like virtual phone numbers. If I want people from back East in one particular area code to be able to call me from their landlines for free, then I can get a virtual phone number that uses their local area code. When they call my virtual number, my phone rings. Cost (last time I used it and probably it's still the same) was $5/month for me and zero for them. I think the toll-free number add-on, if I wanted one, is about the same cost.

There's also that soft-phone feature/option, but I don't use it.

I LOVE the Internet!!!!!!!

P.S. I should add that one needs a cable-modem connection in order to get VOIP phone service. If your cable goes out, so does the phone. I've been a Vonage customer for about four years, and my phone's gone out maybe once a year for a brief period of time. That's when a cell comes in handy as a backup.

Comming from Silicon Valley, the popular VOIP there is a comany called Packet8. I started my VOIP service in 2002 and still have the service now. They are cheaper than Vonage and the service is very comparable or some say its even better. I pay for the whole year so it comes out to $16 and some change per month. I get unlimited long distance and I get very good rates with international calls. If you have cox cable it is a must have if you want to save money on your phone bill and get rid of you land line.

All this for a 702 area code???? But how does one cover up the non-Vegas area work experience on their applications/resumes? If present employer is in SF (or in Ohio)...and all most recent and past experience is there, doesn't the true picture jump right out at the potential employer?

My guess is that most Vegas employers are wary of the situtaion right away, and are therefore on the lookout for it. I don't think a simple 702 area code...or maybe even a LV address for the that matter...fools them at all. Anyone with access to the internet can basically google an address, and it lists names, etc. asscoiated with that address. Any discrepnacy there would also set off flags, I would imagine.

LOL JFK....I covered exactly this in another post yesterday......how do you cover up the fact that, If I want to 1. interview you 2. hire you 3. drug test you 4. start your employment, the time line for each item....is tomorrow. Not in 2 or three weeks when you give notice, quit your job, pack your belongings, move to LV, find a place to live. By the time you finish that, the person that I hired has already finished their training period and is a productive employee....If I wanted you to start in 3 weeks, I would have run the ad in three weeks.......

But dyn...is a body, just a body, as far as potential workers are concerned? How would it be handled if one already was working and living in LV, applied for that same job, and met all your qualifications, you make the offer, and then the person says that they'd like to give their current employer a two week notice of termination?

Isn't 2 weeks temination notice customary in LV...or is it like, here today, gone tomorrow?

No I don't have VOIP service.
As I said in my original post I will be out there looking for a job and a place so I will be happy if I knock one of the two off my to do list. In addition I will experience Vegas for the FIRST without my daughter just with my friends!! Yes, I have thought about what jobs will say about my start date since it will have to be in 2 weeks!! I will go back to Ohio on the 21st of June give my job 2weeks notice on the 23rd have my going away shin dig July 5th and on the road to Vegas July 7th.Since I don't know how things will go I'm debating if it wouldn't be better for me to just ask my relatives if I can stay with them until I find a job. I only say this because I've read all the stories about how bad traffic is if you live far from your work. Or I just might take my chances and go for the area (SW side of town) that I have been researching and from what I've seen would be nice for my daughter and I. I know I will have to sign a lease so I will then just hope the traffic is being exagerated or I find a job that isn't too far. On second thought I would much rather have my own place and get my daughter settled and into school so I think I will just suffer through the traffic if it's that bad.

P.S. YES I have money saved. lol

Yep two weeks is customary and IF the person were already living in LV and needed to give two weeks notice that would be acceptable....but to delay a start date for someone that probably won't survive the first summer here or is simply looking for a paid way to look for a better job.....sorry....I work for a Casino....and we AREN'T in the gambling business

Resident get far more weight in the mix then do non-residents or Vegas wannabees
