Got it out in CA as a beat around car...since it's low emissions, do I still need to take it in for smog prior to registering it today?

Yes.

It's a hybrid, and hybrids are only exempt for the first 5 model years. This would be the 7th model year. Go pay your $25 to the smogger, get the car inspected, then be sure to post back here how you got reamed by the NV DMV on the registration fees.

the nevada dmv site was vague, says alternative fuel vehicles are exempt (partially alternative?)...and the DMV in CA they are all exempt, all models. Isn't a 2007 within the first 5 models?

I just bought 2012 Prius and had to have smog test---at least that is what dealer told me and charged me for it..
DMV Registration and taxes were $375 plus I got retro license plate for additional $26

Called DMV after a long hold...yes it needs a smog...guy above was right...I confused 5 model years with an actual model of the vehicle, (model 1, model 2, etc...)

Any Prius that's 5 years or older requires one.

The dealer lied. How much did they ding you for?
