I for one am very bothered by the crime statistics. Particularly the sharp increase in robberies. What is happening? Why? Heard the Sr. Sheriff types talk right around it. "socio-economic" driven. BS You don't get a large bump in a limited set of data without something going on.

The data listed is for metro..which is Clark County and the City of Las Vegas. North Las Vegas is better and Henderson a lot better.

I also don't care for the "index" used for crime by CD. Much easier to simply use the violent crime and property crime rates from the Feds.

See...

Violent Crime - Crime in the United States 2006 (http://www.fbi.gov/ucr/cius2006/offenses/violent_crime/index.html - broken link)

Thanks for the clarification, Cap.

Looks like a nice place! But it only has 150,000 people (this is the whole county) While Bella Vista has about 16,000.

Benton County where Bella Vista is located has doubled its population in the last ten years.

Do think it will reach the 2 million that clark county has in the near future? and do you expect the cost of living to increase and crime etc.. also associated with the growth?

As you'll see Chicago and Baltimore have seen much lower crime rates than in the past. It's not just the raw score, but also the trend that counts. There's no reason people thinking of a move to Vegas should neglect this data.

Chicago, Illinois (IL) Detailed Profile - relocation, real estate, travel, jobs, hospitals, schools, crime, news, sex offenders
Baltimore, Maryland (MD) Detailed Profile - relocation, real estate, travel, jobs, hospitals, schools, crime, news, sex offenders
Comparing Vegas to either Chicago or Baltimore is Apples to Oranges especially since I lived close to Baltimore where crime is rampant. Vegas has more crimes against property (i.e. car thefts) than most cities though there was a 15% drop this past year. The thing that disturbs me the most is the slew of graffiti which is starting to head in my direction. However, Vegas is no where near the crime that either major city has, if you have HBO watch The Wire tonight, it is spot on to Baltimore crime and the struggles that cops have in that city.

The grafitti is symptomatic of gangs "marking their territories." The amount of grafitti in LV will be proportionally related to influx of LA gang members moving to and living in LV.

Here's a concept: instead of moving and bouncing and relocating from city to city state to state running away from problems and trying to obtain happiness, how about just settling in one place once and for all then establishing roots with a career, sign your kids up for little leauge, go to PTA meetings, getting to know your neighbors, find a church, and just make some friends. And even more importantly help out and make a contriution to society to better that city because otherwise who else will?

Nonsense. You again pontificate where you know little. The LV graffiti causing problems is almost entirely tagger crews where the art is the end goal. There are of course gangs tagging terrritory but that is not the issue.
