The only "lie" I have ever told a random tourist is that the Stratosphere is walking distance to NYNY. They were downtown and planned on taking a taxi to the Stratosphere and then walk to NYNY.(or vise versa) Technically it is not far but you can definitely work up a sweat in the summer heat.

10 lies Las Vegans tell tourists | Las Vegas Review-Journal

Quote:

Sometimes we can’t help ourselves and have to poke a little fun at people who
seem to have believed everything they’ve ever heard about the city. Here are 10
things our Facebook fans told us they’ve told tourists for a
laugh:

  • If you see a missing floor on an elevator (13, 40-49), you’ve found where
    the locals live.
  • When our kids learn to count it’s 8, 9, 10, Jack, Queen, King.
  • We all actually live in L.A. — casinos charter planes to pick up their
    employees.
  • We don’t have traditional jobs. We make our living gambling and sometimes
get paid to wander around casinos to make them look more popular than they
    really are.
  • It’s tradition to tip your taxi driver $1 every time he runs a yellow light,
$2 if it’s a red, and $5 if he takes you through the tunnel.
  • A Hawaiian shirt is a sure-fire way to make locals think you’re one of them.
For an added bonus, add mid-calf-length white socks.
  • The Statue of Liberty in front of New York-New York is actually the original
    — it was donated to the city when a new one was made after years of wear and
    tear from the Atlantic Ocean.
  • If you yell “what happens in Vegas,” any local within earshot has to finish
    the phrase.
  • There are more people per square mile on the Strip in a given hour than
there are anywhere in New York City.
  • The right side of the sidewalk is reserved for locals. The left side is for
tourists. Pay attention or you’ll get a fine.

I almost posted this yesterday, but you beat me to it.

The only "lie" I've ever told was that everyone lives on the strip. In hotels.

No, I've never lied to a tourist but I had an interesting exchange in London. We had just checked into our hotel (It was our first trip to the UK) and our room wasn't ready so we went for a walk. We had gone a couple of blocks when an English person stopped us and ask us if we knew where "Hotel ---" was, it just happened to be our hotel and I gave her directions and she thanked me. We had to laugh as it was the only place we knew and she just happened to pick it.

I don't lie to them and I will give directions, etc. Most of them are really nice.

Usually people are very interested when I travel and someone asks where I live. They have all either been or they want to go. We are very popular.

I dont lie to tourists. I used to love to take pictures for them though. Offer to use their camera to take a photo of them in front of some landmark. I would either cut their head off in the photo or just zoom in on the girl's boobs and then give them back the camera. They wouldnt know until they returned home and got the film developed.

That prank doesn't work so well anymore. :-(

Maybe I should change the tgread title to "The most evilest thing you have don't to a tourist" instead.

When driving a cab I had quite a few females seriously ask me where people in LV live...so I would tell them....we all live in Dorms under the casinos!

If they asked me if I lived in LV I would tell them no, I just fly in for my shift each day.

I no longer believe there is no such thing as a stupid question.

THAT is funny.

I don't talk to people on the streets. I put off a strong "F you" vibe, and people tend to leave me alone.
