In preparation to moving to LV, does anyone have any suggestions on temporary housing? We have considered extended stay hotels, vacation rentals, and short term furnished rentals. Extended stays tend to be way overpriced, and, well, if I were honest, disgusting. Vacation rentals also trend toward pricey, but still a potential option. My boyfriend's airline will cover the move, and storing of our things forup to 60 days, so we want to take advantage of that, and give ourselves time to have a proper look around to see where we want to park ourselves. Any additional, or specific suggestions?

We rented a short-term vacation rental that was not great but acceptable for the short amount of time we were in it. We also looked at all of the options; We decided against a hotel, just due to not having things you need for a longer stay (in unit washer/dryer, oven, etc). We looked at numerous websites, VRBO, Homeaway and ended up finding a place for a decent price for the month. They were also very flexible with us on move out date due to being delayed in getting into our long-term place. So if I were you I would look for a furnished vacation rental, also don't hesitate to attempt to negotiate price, many of these places will lower the price if asked. Also we started looking for a long-term place shortly after we arrived. You need to do so immediately...it can take weeks to get approved for a rental if you are going to rent, if the have an HOA it could take longer. Also be prepared at how expensive moving to Las Vegas is; deposits, driver's licenses, vehicle registration it adds up quickly. If you have any questions please feel free to ask.

Weeklies and Monthlies are around a $170 a week. That includes utilities, cable and WIFI. It's really your best option. You have the right idea getting an idea about the area and looking around first but landlords aren't fighting over people looking for a place to stay for 2 months. Just suck it up, your looking for something not easy to find.

Over the years we have put clients up at a number of places. The most acceptable and, of course, most expensive have been the Marriot Courtyards and La Quintas on the west side. Had a poker player for a month at the Extended Stay America on Valley View. He liked it a lot. Have done a number of the Budget Suites. Particularly the ones on west Trop and the one out on Rancho. Nothing to write home about but inexpensive and generally livable. The Budget Suite on LV Blvd south may also be OK nowadays. During the boom it was too construction worker and somewhat raucous. Settled down now purportedly.

Some of the VRBO and other vacation places may work. Tend to be a bit expensive. Don't get in to close Silverado or NW/SW or Henderson.

Thanks everyone. @LV10101, why does it take so long to approve a rental app?? Im not sure what we will do, Im leaning toward renting for a bit, so we can then take an extended period of time to decide if the area we selected is really what we want, but my BF would rather not waste money renting, and just find a place to buy. His company is paying for the move, so buying a place, from the convenience standpoint, is the way to go. If we rent for a bit, then buy, that move would be all on us. Not exactly something I would look forward to.

@Ivoc, why should we avoid getting in to close to Silverado or NW/SW or Henderson? Is it just the expense factor, or are these places to avoid in general?

Badly stated on my part. Go to Silverado or NW/SW or Henderson. Stay some distance from the strip or downtown. The immediate areas next to the strip and downtown tend to be difficult.

I think I found a short term apartment for us, and I was wondering if it is in a decent neighborhood. Its on Badura
Ave, not far from San Martin hospital. Any thoughts on this? I am considering it, because its a good price for a short term rental (most places I've found are $2500 and up), and it looked to be fairly centrally located, in terms of where will will need to work, and areas that we are thinking of looking for a house.
