If so:

1) How long have you been living there? Since 1998.
2) What prompted you to choose Vegasas the place to move too? Because it has a pro business economic climate, it's warm, has natural features like the Spring MOuntains and Lake Mead around it, the cosmopolitan amentities more associated with a larger city, and the diversity of a population from the world over.
3) How much research did you put into the city? Enough.
4) What expectations did you have coming in? Just what I learned but kept an open mind on what I havn't. If you have a high bar of expectations you'll always be dissappointed with everything and anything.
4a) Which of those expectations were met, exceeded, and failed?
5) What advice would you give to others who are contemplating such a move in '08? Just do it. If you don't like it move back to where you're from.

and finally,

6) Any regrets? The only thing I miss are family and friends but how often did I really get to se them back home maybe once per month with friends and all the holidays with family. You can always get on an airplane and go back to visiti it'll be like you never left.

That is exactly how I feel!

1) How long have you been living there?

Moved in June, 2007. Still live part-time in San Francisco.

2) What prompted you to choose Vegas as the place to move to?

Quality of real estate available for the dollar + liked the entertainment/lifestyle options available.

3) How much research did you put into the city?

A lot. I made sure it was a place I could grow to love.

4) What expectations did you have coming in?

Great quality of housing, good entertainment options, good weather, easy access to Southern California, poor job market, high crime.

4a) Which of those expectations were met, exceeded, and failed?

All of the above have been somewhat below my expectations. There seems to have been an influx of drugs/gangs/criminal element from Los Angeles over the last few years that wasn't as prevalent when I started looking into Las Vegas as a relocation destination. But actually the social environment has been a lot better than I expected. I've met a lot of nice people here.

5) What advice would you give to others who are contemplating such a move in '08?

Move to Summerlin. Other areas will likely disappoint you. Don't move here for "cheap" housing - you'll get what you pay for. Don't move here for a job - work independently or telecommute instead, and make sure you can do your work from Las Vegas. Las Vegas is really many very different cities physically co-located in one geographic area, so you have to pick your spots.

6) Any regrets?

No - I would do exactly what I did again.

What do you mean by "cheap housing?" What do you consider cheap? There are many other great communities outside summerlin that you can get a decent apt/condo or home for a good price. Cheap to me is the high-low 200's.
